Horde Mode XL is not available everywhere Aftermath is. Saber lists XL maps for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S; its FAQ lists standard Horde Mode maps for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One X|S and Xbox Series X|S. Check the exact platform if that mode is a deciding factor. Saber’s World War Z FAQ
Classes, melee and perspective
Aftermath emphasizes class-based progression, with eight classes, weapon customization and a melee system that includes dual-wield and two-handed weapons. Platforms, cross-play and solo play
Saber lists Aftermath for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store, and Amazon Luna. The original World War Z is also available on Nintendo Switch, but Saber says Switch has no cross-play with other platforms. Its FAQ also says there are currently no plans to bring updates to the Switch version; that is a time-sensitive publisher statement, not a guarantee about future support. Saber’s World War Z FAQ
Aftermath cross-play is supported among PC, PlayStation 4/5 and Xbox One/Series X|S. Saber says the game has no local co-op and does not support cross-progression; a one-time save transfer through PROS is possible. Missions and solo modes can be played without a platform subscription. Saber’s World War Z FAQ

What Back 4 Blood offers
Campaign runs built around cards
Back 4 Blood centers its co-op story campaign on a card system. Players can choose a premade deck or build a custom one, with the system intended to change how each run plays. If you enjoy adjusting a build and seeing how it affects a campaign attempt, that is the game’s clearest distinction from Aftermath’s class-based approach. Official Back 4 Blood game page
4v4 Swarm PvP
Back 4 Blood includes Swarm, a PvP mode for eight players split into two teams of four. That gives it a competitive option alongside the cooperative campaign; the official game page describes the mode as 4v4. Official Back 4 Blood game page; Official Back 4 Blood FAQ

- Take back Vatican City in an epic confrontation in Rome, and join forces with survivors in Russia’s snowbound Kamchatka peninsula in all-new story missions
- Play in glorious 4K|60 FPS. Endure endless waves of increasingly difficult zombies in the new Horde Mode XL game mode, featuring hundreds more zombies on screen than ever before possible
- Experience a heart-pounding new perspective with Aftermath’s immersive new First-Person Mode option
- Level up eight unique classes — the Gunslinger, Hellraiser, Slasher, Medic, Fixer, Exterminator, Dronemaster, and all-new Vanguard class — each with their own perks and playstyles
Offline Campaign and Training
The official FAQ says Back 4 Blood’s offline Campaign and Training modes include three AI teammates. Offline Campaign supports progression and unlocks, and Campaign progress can carry between offline and online play. Training makes all cards available so players can try deck builds. The FAQ says console players do not need Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus for those offline modes; online console modes require the platform subscription described there. Official Back 4 Blood FAQ
Platforms and cross-play caveat
The Back 4 Blood FAQ lists PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with up to four players in online co-op. The official pages cited here do not establish cross-play compatibility, so confirm that feature for your platforms before buying for a mixed-platform group. Official Back 4 Blood FAQ

- Fight your way through a perilous world In a 4-player co-op story campaign where you must work together to survive increasingly challenging missions
- Choose from 8 customizable cleaners and a range of lethal weapons and items
- Play with or against friends in PvP
- A new Roguelike card system creates different experiences each and every time
- A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to play Back 4 Blood on PlayStation or Xbox consoles.
How to make the choice
- Start with your preferred campaign loop. Pick Aftermath for episode-based missions, classes, melee variety and horde play. Pick Back 4 Blood if customizing a deck to influence each run sounds more appealing.
- Decide whether PvP matters. Back 4 Blood has 4v4 Swarm PvP. The cited official Aftermath materials emphasize cooperative and horde modes rather than a comparable PvP mode.
- Check every player’s platform. Aftermath’s cross-play spans PC, PlayStation and Xbox, but Switch is excluded. Back 4 Blood cross-play is not established by the official pages cited here.
- Choose the solo mode you want. Both provide solo play. Back 4 Blood’s FAQ spells out offline Campaign and Training with three AI teammates; Saber describes World War Z missions and solo modes as playable without a platform subscription.
- Verify mode availability on your hardware. In particular, Horde Mode XL is limited to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
What the available comparisons do not establish
The official pages document features, platforms and mode details, but they do not provide a like-for-like measure of performance, review scores, current player populations, matchmaking speed or sales. The choice here is therefore about which documented play style and platform setup suit your group—not a claim that one game is universally better. Platform support and subscription rules can change; check the current official pages for your region and platform before purchasing.
