World War Z: Aftermath’s Waves of Lead update launched on October 5, 2026. The free update adds new weapons and heavy-weapon perks, five mutators, portrait-frame challenges, new Weekly Challenge setups, and Extinction Mode support for The Walking Dead episode. The episode itself still requires its separate crossover DLC.
When did Waves of Lead launch, and where is it available?
Saber Interactive announced Waves of Lead as out on October 5, 2026, and linked the launch trailer from its official patch notes. The publisher says the update is free on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Steam, and Epic Games Store.

What does the free update add?
The Walking Dead episode in Extinction Mode
The update adds Extinction Mode support for The Walking Dead episode. Saber lists locations including the Prison, Alexandria Safe Zone, and Grady Memorial Hospital. You must own the World War Z x The Walking Dead crossover DLC to play the episode; the free update does not grant ownership of that add-on.
Two weapons
- Bullpup Shotgun BSG-12: a new tier-three firearm with its own perks.
- Gas Pipe Wrench: a new heavy melee weapon.
Six heavy-weapon perks
The new perks modify six heavy weapons, with several trading ammunition capacity or weapon behavior for a different effect.

Mutator availability depends on mode. Private lobby and Horde mode are listed separately below to make those limits clear.
