Yes—WorldEdit works on Fabric. EngineHub officially supports WorldEdit on Fabric for Minecraft Java Edition, including local single-player instances and dedicated Fabric servers. Install Fabric first, then add the WorldEdit mod build that matches your exact Minecraft version. Fabric API is additionally required only for Minecraft 1.14.x in the documented setup; it is not required for 1.15 and newer versions.
What “WorldEdit on Fabric” means
WorldEdit is an in-game map editor. It provides selection tools, large-scale block editing, schematics, copy-and-paste operations, brushes, and scripting. Fabric is the mod loader that launches the game and loads WorldEdit’s mod file. They are compatible when the loader, game version, and WorldEdit release line up.

This answer applies to Minecraft Java Edition. Fabric is not a route to WorldEdit on Bedrock Edition. EngineHub’s installation documentation also excludes Realms, Windows 10 Edition (Bedrock), Bedrock Edition, and Pocket Edition. A Java account and a Java installation are prerequisites for every setup below.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat you need before installing
- A Minecraft Java Edition installation and the Minecraft version you actually intend to launch.
- Fabric Loader installed for that version, either in a local launcher profile or on the dedicated server.
- The WorldEdit file labeled as a Fabric mod, not the separate server-plugin download.
- Fabric API only when running Minecraft 1.14.x. The official WorldEdit 7.4 installation instructions state that Fabric API is not required for 1.15 and later.
- Permission to edit the instance’s
modsfolder, or access to the launcher’s loader-mods interface.
WorldEdit releases and supported game versions change. The project listing currently shows Fabric builds for version families including Minecraft 26.2 and 26.1.x, alongside older families, but that list is volatile. Use the release page’s version selector immediately before downloading and verify the exact Minecraft version printed on the selected file. Do not choose a jar merely because its title looks close to your game version.

Install WorldEdit on a Fabric client
- Install Fabric Loader. Run the Fabric installer, select the Minecraft version you will play, and create or select the Fabric profile in your launcher. Start that profile once and close the game so the instance folders are created.
- Choose the correct WorldEdit artifact. On the WorldEdit project page, filter for your exact Minecraft version and the Fabric platform. Download the entry identified as the mod. A server-plugin build is for a plugin-based server platform and is not the file used by a Fabric mod instance.
- Add the jar to the instance. Place the downloaded WorldEdit jar in that profile’s
modsfolder, or add it through the launcher’s loader-mods screen if your launcher exposes one. Keep the file unchanged; do not unzip it. - Add Fabric API when applicable. For Minecraft 1.14.x, put the matching Fabric API jar in the same
modsfolder. For Minecraft 1.15 and later, the documented setup does not require Fabric API for WorldEdit. - Launch the Fabric profile. Confirm that the title screen or installed-mod list shows Fabric and WorldEdit. Create or open a test world before attempting a large edit.
- Enable access in the world. In Fabric single-player, WorldEdit is restricted to worlds with cheats enabled by default. Enable cheats when creating the world, or use the game’s supported method for opening a world to LAN with commands enabled. WorldEdit’s configuration can alter this default behavior.
If the game closes during startup, remove only the newly added jar, launch the profile again, and inspect the log for a loader or version-mismatch message. Then reselect the release using the exact Minecraft version rather than trying another nearby version at random.
Install WorldEdit on a dedicated Fabric server
- Set up the server with Fabric Loader. Install the Fabric server for the same Minecraft version your clients will use and start it once to generate the server directory.
- Download the Fabric mod build. Select the WorldEdit release matching the server’s Minecraft version. Do not use the project’s server-plugin file; Fabric loads the mod jar directly.
- Copy the mod into the server. Put the WorldEdit jar in the server’s
modsdirectory. For a 1.14.x server, add the compatible Fabric API jar there as well. The documented setup does not require Fabric API on 1.15 or newer. - Start and verify. Restart the server and read the startup log. A successful launch should show Fabric loading WorldEdit without a dependency or compatibility error.
- Grant the appropriate permission. Only server operators can use WorldEdit by default. Make the player an operator through the server’s normal operator command or administration panel, or change WorldEdit’s access configuration deliberately after reviewing the security implications.
- Test with a small selection. Join with a matching Java Edition client, make a small edit, and check the server console for errors before allowing players to use larger operations.
WorldEdit runs on the server, so every client that needs to issue commands must connect to a server with WorldEdit installed. A client-side visual helper is optional; it does not replace the server mod.
Single-player and server defaults compared
| Use case | Where WorldEdit is installed | Default access | Extra dependency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fabric single-player | The selected Fabric instance’s mods folder |
Cheats must be enabled by default | Fabric API on Minecraft 1.14.x only |
| Dedicated Fabric server | The server’s mods folder |
Operators only by default | Fabric API on Minecraft 1.14.x only |
| Selection visualization | Optional client-side WorldEdit CUI mod, with WorldEdit still installed server-side | Does not grant editing permission | Separate optional mod; not required for WorldEdit |
Do you need Fabric API?
The answer depends on the Minecraft version, not on whether you are playing locally or on a server. EngineHub’s WorldEdit 7.4 installation documentation gives this boundary:
Rank #2
- ULTIMATE COLLECTION — Includes Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition, five Bedrock add-ons, five exclusive Character Creator items, and 1000 Minecoins.
- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that’s unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world filled with surprises.
- SURVIVE THE ADVENTURE — Face mysterious foes, travel across exciting landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play cross-platform with friends in Bedrock Edition on console, mobile, and PC, or join community servers in Java Edition on PC, Mac, and Linux. Online console multiplayer requires a platform-specific subscription (sold separately).
- Minecraft 1.14.x: install Fabric API alongside WorldEdit.
- Minecraft 1.15 and newer: Fabric API is not required for the documented WorldEdit setup.
Always follow the dependency information attached to the particular release you select. If a newer release lists an additional dependency, that release-specific information takes precedence over a general guide written for an older version.
WorldEdit CUI: useful, but optional
WorldEdit CUI is a separate, client-side Fabric/Quilt graphical interface that draws your WorldEdit selection on screen. It is a frontend for visualizing the selection; it does not perform the edits and does not substitute for installing WorldEdit on the server.
For CUI to display a multiplayer selection, the server still needs WorldEdit. Install the CUI mod only on the client that wants the outlines, using a build compatible with that client’s Minecraft and Fabric versions. Players who do not install CUI can still use WorldEdit commands if they have the required permissions.
Rank #3
- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that is unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world full of surprises.
- SURVIVAL ADVENTURES — Face mysterious foes, travel across varied landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play solo or join friends in local split-screen and cross-platform play across console, mobile, and PC. Online multiplayer supports up to 8 players.
- COMMUNITY PLAY — Connect with players on community servers, or subscribe to Realms Plus (sold separately) to play with up to 10 friends on a private server.
Without CUI, the official documentation describes //drawsel as a limited server-side alternative for cuboid outlines. The current documented limit is a selection no larger than 48×48×48 blocks; older versions use a 32×32×32 limit. The player must also be in creative mode. These restrictions make //drawsel a diagnostic aid rather than a full replacement for a persistent client-side outline tool.
Why WorldEdit commands may not work
The game is not Java Edition
Fabric and this WorldEdit installation path target Java Edition. Bedrock, Pocket Edition, Windows 10 Edition (Bedrock), and Realms are outside the supported scope described by EngineHub. Verify the edition before changing files.
The wrong file was downloaded
The project distinguishes a Fabric mod download from a server-plugin download. A plugin jar placed in a Fabric mods folder will not load as the required mod. Return to the project page, choose the Fabric platform, and select the exact game version.
Rank #4
- Skins! We have biome settlers, city folk, town folk, and more!
- The Nether and all its inhabitants. Fight Ghasts and make friends with Pigmen
- Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
- Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
- Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
The Minecraft and WorldEdit versions do not match
Fabric can start while a mod fails because it targets another Minecraft version. Check the launcher profile’s version, the server’s version, and the release metadata on the WorldEdit file. Read the loader log for a stated incompatibility instead of relying on the filename alone.
Fabric API is missing on 1.14.x
On a 1.14.x installation, add the matching Fabric API jar to the same mods folder. This particular dependency is not required by the documented setup for 1.15 and newer releases.

In single-player, enable cheats. On a server, verify that the player is an operator. WorldEdit’s quick-start documentation also identifies configuration options named cheat-mode and use-in-creative; administrators can review those settings when the default access behavior is not suitable. Changing permissions on a public server should be intentional because WorldEdit can make large, destructive changes quickly.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
The server starts with an error
Stop the server, read the server log around the first loader error, and check for a missing dependency, duplicate mod, or version mismatch. Remove the conflicting file, install the matching release, and restart. If the error persists, reproduce it with only Fabric, the required dependency for that version, and WorldEdit enabled; then add optional client tools such as CUI separately.
Choosing the right setup
| Your goal | Install | Remember |
|---|---|---|
| Edit a private local world | Fabric Loader plus the matching WorldEdit Fabric mod | Enable cheats by default; add Fabric API only on 1.14.x |
| Run WorldEdit for several players | Fabric server plus the matching WorldEdit Fabric mod | Operators can use it by default; clients connect through Java Edition |
| See selection boundaries clearly | WorldEdit server-side, plus optional WorldEdit CUI on the client | CUI visualizes selections but does not provide editing capability |
| Use a supported outline without another client mod | WorldEdit and //drawsel |
Creative mode required; 48×48×48 current limit, 32×32×32 on older versions |
Version-check checklist
- Read the Minecraft version shown in the launcher or server startup output.
- On the WorldEdit project page, select that exact version and the Fabric platform.
- Confirm that the download is the mod build, not a plugin build.
- Read the release’s dependency notes, especially if the game is 1.14.x.
- Keep optional CUI installation separate from the server’s required WorldEdit installation.
- Recheck the release page whenever updating Minecraft; supported version families and dependency rules can change.
Bottom line
WorldEdit is officially supported on Fabric for Minecraft Java Edition. The reliable path is to match three things—the Minecraft version, Fabric Loader, and WorldEdit Fabric mod—then apply the version-specific Fabric API rule. Enable cheats in single-player or grant operator access on a server, and treat WorldEdit CUI as an optional visual aid rather than a requirement.
