There is no single rogue-tank best-in-slot set for every Phase 8 group. Treat the lists below as a starting point: lean toward threat when damage dealers must pause to avoid pulling aggro, and toward defense when incoming damage is stretching your healers. The detailed item recommendations cited here were last updated in April 2025; check for later tuning before treating any ranking as definitive.
What Phase 8 changes for rogue tanks
Phase 8 brings the Scarlet Enclave raid into the endgame. Blizzard scheduled its global opening for 10 April at 21:00 BST and described “eight new bosses” and “new eight-piece armor sets for their class” in its official Phase 8 announcement. That makes older Blackfathom Deeps and Gnomeregan lists poor stand-ins for Phase 8 gearing.
The lists from Wowhead and Icy Veins name useful Phase 8 items and sources, but their update dates matter: Wowhead’s guide identifies patch 1.15.8 and was updated 28 April 2025; Icy Veins’ page was last updated 8 April 2025. Neither date establishes whether subsequent tuning changed an individual item’s ranking.
Choose gear for the encounter, not just the list
Wowhead’s gear advice frames tank gearing as a balance between offense and defense. If your damage dealers have to stop attacking because your threat is low, offensive stats may help. If healers are struggling to keep you alive, give more weight to defense. Large pulls, hard-hitting bosses, and the strength of your healing team can all change that balance.

Agility and defense skill are especially useful in Wowhead’s framing because each contributes to both offense and defense. By contrast, some stats are more narrowly offensive or defensive, so their value depends more on what the encounter and group need.
Icy Veins gives a separate assumed priority for its Combat Rogue Tank guide: Stamina > Agility > Hit Chance > Strength/Attack Power > Crit Chance. Treat that as the priority for that guide’s assumptions, not as a universal replacement for Wowhead’s dual-purpose-stat advice. Adjust your choices to the actual threat and survival problems you see in your group.

How to build a practical set
- Start with your group’s problem. If threat is forcing damage dealers to hold back, look for offensive value; if survival or healer capacity is the constraint, favor more defense.
- Use the Phase 8 lists by slot. Check the Wowhead table for its Scarlet Enclave picks and raid alternatives, then cross-check the Icy Veins list where it names another option.
- Compare the actual pieces. Prefer stats that address the encounter. Agility and defense skill are notable in Wowhead’s guidance for their combined offensive and defensive value.
- Reassess after a change in encounter or group. A set that works for a hard-hitting boss with strained healing may not be the right balance for a pull where threat is the limiting factor.
- Verify before calling it current. The cited item guides date to April 2025. Check current item behavior and tuning in-game or against an up-to-date reference before committing to a supposedly definitive ranking.
Keep early rune advice separate from Phase 8 gear rankings
A World of Warcraft Forums post by Saurosh, dated 17 January 2024, recommends Just a Flesh Wound in the chest and Blade Dance in the legs for early rogue tanking. That is player advice from early Phase 1, not a Phase 8 gear ranking. It should not be used to substantiate the later-phase item list.
