Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor Destiny 1’s Wrath of the Machine, build for team utility and reliable damage rather than one “perfect” set. A Defender Titan, Nightstalker Hunter and Stormcaller Warlock cover the raid’s most important jobs; explosive hand cannons or scouts handle Shanks and Vandals; high-impact snipers cover majors and turrets; and Sleeper Simulant, Gjallarhorn, or a legendary rocket provide dependable boss burst. The raid’s historical recommendation is Light 370 on normal and 380 on Heroic, values that apply to Rise of Iron in Destiny 1—not to Destiny 2 power levels.
What this guide covers
Wrath of the Machine (WotM) is the six-player raid added with Destiny 1’s Rise of Iron expansion. It launched on September 23, 2016; its harder Heroic version followed on October 18, 2016. The encounters are Vosik, the Siege Engine and Aksis, Archon Prime. The raid overview’s tagline, “Where the Light ends, evolution begins,” captures its SIVA theme, but your practical goal is simpler: bring enough control, survivability and burst damage to keep mechanics predictable.

Normal mode lists a recommended Light Level of 370. Heroic lists 380. Those are historical Destiny 1 values and should not be converted directly into Destiny 2 Power. If your character is below the recommendation, mechanics and positioning matter even more, but expect incoming damage and time-to-kill to be less forgiving.

| Class and subclass | Recommended setup | Primary job | When to substitute |
|---|---|---|---|
| Titan: Defender | Weapons of Light, Bastion and Illuminated | Place a Ward of Dawn for protected revives, damage preparation and emergency cover; Weapons of Light improves the team’s burst window. | Use Sunbreaker when the group already has enough support and needs more add clear. |
| Hunter: Nightstalker | Black Hole, Light of the Pack and invisibility-focused options | Tether dangerous groups, generate Orbs and make runners or revivers safer. | Use Gunslinger with Celestial Nighthawk when several Nightstalkers are already supplying control and the team needs another burst super. |
| Warlock: Stormcaller | Chaining and Transcendence-oriented tools | Clear clustered Splicers and protect lanes during hectic add waves. | Use Sunsinger when self-revival or personal survival is more valuable than chaining damage. |
Agility is useful for runners who must cross hazards quickly, but do not sacrifice recovery until you are consistently surviving. A fast runner who dies forces a restart; a slightly slower runner with enough health to finish the route is usually the better choice.
Build your weapon slots by threat
Rather than assigning one weapon to every encounter, cover four recurring threats: Shanks and Vandals at range, majors and turrets, short damage windows, and Captains that must be stopped at close distance.
| Slot or role | Best fit | Why it works | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary: explosive hand cannon | A hand cannon with explosive rounds | Explosions make body shots useful against Splicer Vandals and Shanks. Shanks lack conventional critical spots, so precision-only primaries lose part of their advantage. | Magazine size and recoil can feel awkward at extreme range; carry a scout if lanes are long. |
| Primary: high-impact scout | An explosive-round, high-impact scout rifle | More ammunition-friendly than many hand cannons while retaining strong ranged body-shot damage. | Less immediate close-range stopping power when enemies collapse on your position. |
| Special: high-impact sniper | Ex Machina, Event Horizon or a comparable high-impact sniper | Deletes major Shanks, damages turrets and monitors, and contributes meaningful precision damage during boss windows. | Requires a steady firing lane and careful ammo management. |
| Special: close-lane shotgun | A low-impact, high-rate-of-fire shotgun | Useful for a player guarding a close lane or defending a choke point. | Do not stack too many shotguns: the team still needs enough sniper coverage for majors and turrets. |
| Heavy: precision burst | Sleeper Simulant | Very high theoretical damage when you can line up precision shots. | Movement, cover and visual clutter can make precision hits unreliable. |
| Heavy: forgiving burst | Gjallarhorn or a legendary rocket launcher | Rockets are easier to land when a boss or player is moving, and Wolfpack-style tracking (where available) adds forgiving splash damage. | Explosions can kill nearby teammates or waste damage against poor angles; assign firing positions. |
| Heavy: close control | Dark-Drinker | Excellent for Captains and close-range groups, especially when sword damage is part of the encounter plan. | It places you in danger and is less useful when the team must remain at long range. |
| Heavy: sustained crowd fire | Machine gun | Reliable ammunition-efficient fire for crowds, turrets and the Siege Engine’s surrounding enemies. | Usually gives up the fastest boss burst compared with Sleeper or rockets. |
Match elemental damage to the Captains you are facing when possible, but do not abandon a weapon you can use accurately just to force a less familiar element. WotM is often lost to missed shots, uncoordinated supers and deaths during movement rather than to a small damage-type mismatch.
Encounter-by-encounter loadouts
Vosik, the Archpriest
Vosik combines long sightlines with short, high-pressure damage opportunities. Keep an explosive hand cannon or high-impact scout equipped for Shanks and Vandals while you rotate between safe areas. A high-impact sniper handles major targets and can contribute during the damage phase.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Preferred heavy: Sleeper Simulant for a stationary, exposed Vosik and a player who can consistently hit precision shots.
- Safer heavy: Gjallarhorn or a legendary rocket when movement, cover or panic makes Sleeper accuracy unreliable.
- Subclass value: Defender’s Ward gives the team a controlled place to regroup; Nightstalker tether suppresses or weakens clustered adds; Stormcaller removes waves before they surround the group.
Assign one or two players to watch ammunition and one player to call the damage start. Firing heavy weapons early, before everyone is in position, produces less total damage than waiting a few seconds for a synchronized volley.
The Siege Engine
The Siege Engine encounter alternates between moving with the machine, defending objectives and fighting concentrated groups. Dark-Drinker is the standout choice for Captains and enemies that reach melee range. Rockets or a machine gun cover crowds, while snipers remove turrets and help damage the Devil Walker from a safe distance.
- Close lane: Dark-Drinker user with a shotgun or explosive primary to stop Captains before they reach the objective.
- Long lane: High-impact sniper for turrets and priority targets; keep your explosive primary for Shanks that do not expose a useful critical spot.
- Support: Defender protects repairs and revives; Nightstalker makes dangerous rotations safer; Stormcaller clears the packs that spawn around the vehicle.
Do not put every player on swords. The encounter still needs long-range turret suppression and enough ammunition to control enemies while the team is moving.
Aksis, Archon Prime
Aksis is the most demanding test of movement, teleport timing and Captain control. Dark-Drinker is the Heroic guide’s preferred heavy for Captains and close-range damage windows; Razelighter is a secondary sword option. Use snipers and explosive primaries between teleports so you are not trapped in melee range when the boss relocates.

- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Captain duty: A sword user clears the Captain quickly, then returns to the assigned stun or plate position.
- Stun and revive duty: Nightstalker invisibility and Defender cover help players reach a plate or revive without exposing the whole team.
- Damage window: Start with the agreed weapon only after the stun call. Aksis’s teleport can waste a sword swing or rocket, so hold a shot if the boss is about to move.
For normal mode, a mixed heavy roster is fine. For Heroic, make sure every side has a clear Captain answer and that the team knows who is carrying each elemental cannon and who is responsible for emergency revives.
Heroic mode: what changes in your loadout
Heroic’s listed recommendation is Light 380, ten points above normal. The important adjustment is not merely higher damage; Heroic punishes missing a role. Keep at least one Defender Titan for controlled cover unless your group has a practiced alternative, and retain enough Nightstalkers or other crowd control to protect runners and revivers.
Use the high-impact sniper coverage more deliberately in Heroic. A shotgun-heavy group may clear a close lane quickly but can stall when turrets, monitors or majors remain outside sword range. Likewise, a group built entirely around Sleeper Simulant can lose damage when Aksis or Vosik forces movement. Pair precision weapons with rockets or swords so the team has both a high ceiling and a forgiving fallback.
Before starting, decide which players are allowed to spend heavy ammunition during add waves. Saving every rocket for the boss is counterproductive if a Captain kills the runner who was meant to start the damage phase.

Armor, Light and survivability
Armor should make you harder to kill and faster to recover, not merely complete a matching visual set. Prioritize recovery-oriented investment while learning, then tune mobility for runners once survival is consistent. A weapon that kills a Shank one shot sooner is less valuable than enough recovery to survive a failed jump, a stray projectile or a delayed revive.
| Armor source | Defense range listed for Destiny 1 WotM | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Normal raid armor | Approximately 365–385 Defense | Progression gear from the standard raid; useful for reaching the normal recommendation and earning the normal cosmetic shader set. |
| Spliced/Heroic armor | Approximately 380–400 Defense | Higher-level progression gear associated with Heroic rewards and the Heroic cosmetic shader set. |
A full normal set unlocks its corresponding cosmetic shader reward, and a full Spliced/Heroic set unlocks the Heroic reward. Mixing pieces from the two sets does not satisfy either full-set requirement. Treat those ranges as the values listed for the 2016 Destiny 1 raid, not as modern armor statistics.

Balanced learning group
- Two Defender Titans, so one Ward can cover a mechanic while the other saves a panic super.
- Two Nightstalker Hunters for tether control, Orb generation and safer movement.
- Two Stormcallers for add clear, with one able to switch to Sunsinger if survivability becomes the limiting factor.
This composition gives up some theoretical boss burst but is forgiving while players learn routes and timing.
Recommended Free Tools
Damage-focused experienced group
- One Defender Titan for Weapons of Light and emergency cover.
- One Nightstalker for tether and runner safety.
- One Gunslinger with Celestial Nighthawk for a concentrated boss hit.
- Two Stormcallers or a Stormcaller and Sunbreaker for add control.
- One flexible slot, often a second Nightstalker or Defender depending on the encounter.
This setup assumes the group already knows where to stand. If deaths occur during movement, restore the extra support subclass before chasing faster clears.

Preparation checklist and common failures
- Confirm the activity. You are preparing for Destiny 1 Rise of Iron WotM, not a Destiny 2 raid. Check that every player understands the 370 normal or 380 Heroic recommendation.
- Assign jobs before launch. Name the runner, Captain killer, turret sniper, tether user and Ward user for each encounter.
- Reserve weapon coverage. Count high-impact snipers, one or more close-range options, and enough rockets, Sleeper shots or swords for the planned damage windows.
- Set survivability first. Equip recovery-oriented armor and only increase agility after the player can survive the route consistently.
- Call heavy ammunition. Agree which add waves justify heavy use and who will leave bricks for the damage team.
- Practice the recovery plan. Everyone should know who can go invisible, who can place a Ward, and which player can safely attempt a revive.
If damage is low
Check synchronization before replacing weapons. Confirm that every player begins after the stun or damage call, that rockets are not fired into cover, and that Sleeper users have a clear line. If movement prevents precision hits, shift some players to rockets rather than demanding impossible accuracy.
If players die to adds
Move one Stormcaller or Sunbreaker to add duty, tether the most dangerous cluster, and use the Defender Ward to stabilize the lane. A shotgun can protect a close entrance, but keep at least one sniper watching distant majors and turrets.
If Captains overwhelm the team
Give Dark-Drinker or Razelighter to a designated player, match the relevant element when practical, and stop spreading sword users across every lane. One controlled Captain killer is safer than several players abandoning their assigned mechanics.

WotM’s reward chase includes the exotic pulse rifle Outbreak Prime and a large set of SIVA-themed legendary weapons: Chaos Dogma, Genesis Chain, Steel Medulla, Fever and Remedy, Ex Machina, Quantiplasm, Ether Nova, Zeal Vector, Sound and Fury, and If Materia. Ex Machina is associated with Heroic/Vosik in the reward table, while several other weapons can drop in both modes.
Do not judge the raid’s value only by whether a single drop completes your first clear. Normal and Heroic armor provide progression, the full-set shaders reward sustained collecting, and the weapon pool lets you build specialized answers for ranged Shanks, major targets, Captain control and boss burst. Outbreak Prime and the SIVA-themed arsenal are the main reasons to keep refining your team after the initial clear.
Recommended default loadout
If you need one starting template, equip an explosive-round hand cannon or high-impact scout, a high-impact sniper such as Ex Machina or Event Horizon, and choose Sleeper Simulant for a controlled Vosik damage phase or Gjallarhorn/a legendary rocket when movement is unpredictable. Bring Dark-Drinker for Siege Engine and Aksis Captain duty, and organize the team around Defender support, Nightstalker control and Stormcaller add clear. That combination covers the raid’s actual threats without depending on a single fragile damage strategy.
