Wrestling Noticias, citing Dave Meltzer’s account of a Wrestling Observer Radio discussion, says the surprise centered on The Rock praising AEW and calling its owner, Tony Khan, a friend.
What The Rock said in the PAC tribute
Wrestling Noticias reports that The Rock posted a tribute video for PAC—Benjamin Satterley, known in WWE as Neville—on September 29, two days after Satterley’s death. The video referred to Satterley’s WWE run, described AEW as a “phenomenal” company on the rise, and called Tony Khan a friend. Wrestling Noticias’ report
What the reported WWE reaction was
In a Wrestling Observer Radio discussion, Garrett Gonzales asked Dave Meltzer about the response inside WWE. As quoted by Wrestling Noticias, Meltzer said: “Were there people in WWE who were very surprised at his wording and what he said, especially with them being on the TKO board of directors? Yes. Okay. They were very surprised.”
Meltzer’s distinction was between the video’s purpose and its phrasing. He said the surprise was “Not that he did the video or anything like that, but the wording in the video,” particularly the praise that AEW was good for business, worked hard, and helped wrestling. The account describes reported surprise at those positive comments; it does not say WWE objected to The Rock honoring PAC.
