Xbox CEO Says Business Has Started to Grow Again After an “All-Time Low”

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma reportedly told staff the business had started to return to growth after an all-time low. Microsoft’s latest cited content and services revenue was down 10% year over year, and the town hall report does not identify Sharma’s growth metric.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma says the business has started to return to growth after reaching an “all time low,” but the public account of her remarks does not identify the metric or provide supporting figures. Microsoft’s latest reported Xbox content and services revenue, meanwhile, fell 10% year over year in the quarter ended June 30, 2026. The available information therefore supports reporting Sharma’s claim, not treating it as a verified turnaround or proof that cuts caused growth.

What did Xbox CEO Asha Sharma say?

Windows Central reported in October 2026 that Sharma made the comments at an internal Xbox town hall. It quoted her as saying: “We’re making the right decisions to reinvest in the business, after an all time low, we’ve started to return to growth, more than 2 to 3 times what we were, and we expect that continue.” Windows Central’s report does not include the town hall slides or data behind the remarks.

In particular, Sharma’s phrase “more than 2 to 3 times what we were” is not defined. The report does not say whether it refers to revenue, profit, players, subscribers, or another measure, nor does it identify a baseline or timeframe. It should not be read as a specific growth rate for any of those measures.

What do Microsoft’s public results show?

Microsoft’s latest cited results point to a decline in a major public Xbox business measure, rather than growth: Xbox content and services revenue fell 10% year over year in FY2026 Q4, the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Microsoft’s category includes first- and third-party game content, Game Pass and other subscriptions, Xbox Cloud Gaming, advertising, and other cloud services. The company’s FY2026 Q4 results do not establish what internal measure Sharma was discussing.

The two statements are not necessarily contradictory: Sharma may have been referring to a different measure or period. But the public reporting does not explain the difference, so it cannot establish that Xbox’s reported revenue had turned upward by the time of the town hall.

How do earlier hardware results fit in?

Xbox hardware and content and services are separate reporting areas, and the available figures cover different quarters. In FY2026 Q2, ended December 31, 2025, Microsoft reported hardware revenue down 32% year over year, driven by lower console volume, and content and services revenue down 5%. These figures provide earlier context; they are not the latest-quarter results. Microsoft reported them in its FY2026 Q2 More Personal Computing Performance update.

Do the comments show that cuts led to growth?

No. Sharma’s reported remarks refer to decisions to reinvest and a return to growth after an all-time low, but the public account does not quantify cuts or identify which measure recovered. Neither it nor Microsoft’s cited results demonstrates that cuts caused growth. The causal connection remains unproven in the public information available here.
