Xbox Cloud Gaming’s “Stream your own game” feature is available to Game Pass Essential, Premium, and Ultimate subscribers, and Microsoft said its supported library exceeded 1,000 owned games in its April 30, 2026 update. The catalogue is dynamic and region-sensitive, so check the live Xbox Cloud Gaming catalogue before assuming a particular purchase will work.
What “Stream your own game” means
Xbox Cloud Gaming now supports two different ways to play:

- Game Pass streaming: You stream a game included in your subscription’s catalogue.
- Owned-game streaming: You stream a supported game purchased separately through the Xbox/Microsoft Store ecosystem, even if it is not currently included with Game Pass.
This is not a universal “stream anything you own” service. Microsoft enables cloud streaming title by title. Owning a game is necessary, but it does not by itself make the game cloud-streamable.

The feature was originally announced on November 20, 2024 for Game Pass Ultimate members. Microsoft later expanded the eligible plans and the catalogue. That is why older articles describing Ultimate as mandatory—or listing only a few hundred games—may no longer reflect the current service.

How it differs from other Xbox features
- Remote Play streams from your own Xbox console. Xbox Cloud Gaming streams from Microsoft’s servers and does not require your console to be switched on.
- Xbox Play Anywhere gives supported purchases Xbox and PC entitlements and can synchronize progression. It does not automatically make every Play Anywhere title available through cloud streaming.
- Backwards compatibility does not guarantee cloud eligibility. An Xbox 360 or original Xbox game must still appear in the supported cloud catalogue.
Supported games: use the live catalogue
Microsoft reported more than 1,000 owned games in the feature as of April 30, 2026. That number is a Microsoft-reported snapshot, not a permanent or independently audited total. Games can be added, removed, restricted by region, or temporarily unavailable.
Open Xbox Cloud Gaming, sign in, and look for the “Stream your own game” section. You can also use Microsoft’s cloud-enabled Xbox games filter, but the live Xbox Cloud Gaming interface is the more practical final check.

Microsoft’s April 2026 update also named additions including Hades II, Warframe, MotoGP 26, Replaced, Mouse: P.I. for Hire, Aphelion, and Tiny Bookshop. These are examples, not a complete list, and a title displayed in the general cloud catalogue is not necessarily available as an owned-game stream in every country.
Which Game Pass plans are eligible?
Microsoft’s April 30, 2026 announcement identifies these plans as eligible for streaming select owned games:

The plans do not provide identical benefits, catalogues, or limits. Pricing and availability also vary by market. Check the current Xbox Game Pass page and the relevant game listing before subscribing. Ultimate is not automatically required, but a lower tier does not guarantee identical access to every cloud feature or title.

How to stream an Xbox game you own
- Open Xbox Cloud Gaming on a supported device or browser.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the game.
- Search for the exact title and edition.
- Look for “Stream your own game” or an equivalent cloud-play option.
- Confirm that the purchase is associated with the correct account and region.
- Select the cloud-play option to start streaming.
If a page offers only purchase, download, or Game Pass access, do not treat that as proof that your existing purchase can be streamed. The cloud option must be available for that title and account.

- An eligible subscription: Microsoft currently lists Game Pass Essential, Premium, and Ultimate.
- A supported region: Cloud availability is not global and catalogues can differ by country. Microsoft’s December 2025 guide listed 29 supported countries at that time; check the current regional Xbox page for changes.
- A supported device: Compatible Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, browsers, phones, tablets, smart TVs, handhelds, and other devices are supported in varying combinations.
- A recognized Xbox digital entitlement: The purchase must be tied to the Xbox/Microsoft account and version supported by the service.
- A compatible input device: Xbox controllers and supported third-party options such as 8BitDo, GameSir, Backbone, and DualSense can work depending on the device. Microsoft also supports touch controls for hundreds of cloud games and mouse-and-keyboard input for a subset, but neither is universal.
- A stable connection: Latency, packet loss, Wi-Fi congestion, and distance from a data centre affect the experience. Ethernet or strong 5GHz/6GHz Wi-Fi is preferable.
Cloud gaming is more forgiving in turn-based and slower single-player games than in competitive shooters or rhythm games. Resolution and bitrate can fluctuate, and household streaming or downloads can cause stutter even when the connection’s advertised speed appears sufficient.
Why a game you own may not appear
Common reasons include:
- The title is not enabled for cloud streaming.
- You are signed into a different Microsoft account.
- You own a Steam, Epic, PlayStation, or other non-Xbox version.
- You own a physical disc. A disc generally cannot be inserted into a phone, browser, TV, or Microsoft’s cloud servers to verify ownership.
- You own a Windows PC entitlement rather than an Xbox console entitlement.
- The edition differs—for example, standard, deluxe, remastered, or bundled versions may be treated separately.
- The game is unavailable in your country or has a licensing restriction.
- The title was removed, disabled, or changed in the dynamic cloud catalogue.
- Your subscription or device is not eligible for that particular stream.
Xbox Play Anywhere can carry a supported purchase and progression between Xbox and PC, but it is not a blanket cloud-streaming guarantee. Likewise, backwards compatibility alone does not qualify an older game.

Troubleshooting checklist
- Confirm that you are using the Microsoft account shown in the purchase history.
- Search for the exact game edition.
- Verify that the purchase is an Xbox/Microsoft Store entitlement, not only a PC-store copy.
- Check your Game Pass plan and regional availability.
- Refresh Xbox Cloud Gaming, or sign out and back in.
- Try another supported browser or device.
- Check the Xbox service-status page if the purchase is visible but cloud play has disappeared.
- Contact Xbox Support if the entitlement is present and the supported cloud option is still missing.
Do not repurchase a game until you have confirmed the account, edition, entitlement, region, and current catalogue status.

Cloud streaming does not remove a game’s normal online requirements. The game must support online multiplayer, and the player may need the relevant Xbox or Game Pass multiplayer entitlement. Cross-play and cross-progression are specific to each title and platform.
Cloud sessions use the Xbox account and are designed to preserve Xbox ecosystem progression, but save and entitlement behaviour can vary between games and platforms. An Xbox purchase is not interchangeable with a copy bought on Steam, Epic, PlayStation, or another storefront.

Is the subscription worth it?
The feature is most useful if you already own several supported Xbox digital games, want to play on a phone, browser, TV, tablet, or low-power PC, or already use Game Pass for its included library. It is a weaker proposition if your library is mostly physical discs or PC-store purchases, your connection is unstable, you need local mods or guaranteed image quality, or your favourite game is not in the live catalogue.
If most of your games are on PC storefronts, GeForce NOW may be a more relevant alternative because it connects to supported PC game stores. It does not convert Xbox purchases into GeForce NOW entitlements. PlayStation Plus Premium is similarly an alternative for PlayStation users, not a way to stream Xbox purchases.
Bottom line
Xbox Cloud Gaming does let eligible subscribers stream select games they own, but it is not an all-your-games service. Microsoft currently identifies Game Pass Essential, Premium, and Ultimate as eligible plans and reported a library of more than 1,000 owned games in April 2026. Check the live “Stream your own game” catalogue for the exact title, edition, account, and region before paying for a subscription or buying a controller.
