Xbox Cloud Gaming is not shutting down, but the Xbox app is reportedly losing support on 2020 Samsung Smart TVs on November 3, 2026. Windows Central says Microsoft gave operating-system compatibility as the reason and named newer Samsung TVs, PCs, phones, tablets and Xbox consoles as ways to keep streaming.
What is changing—and when?
According to an email attributed to Microsoft and quoted by Windows Central, Xbox app support on 2020 Samsung Smart TVs ends November 3, 2026. The outlet updated its report on October 2, 2026.
The email’s quoted explanation is that future updates to the technology powering Xbox Cloud Gaming are no longer compatible with the operating-system version available on those models. That is the stated reason; technical explanations circulating elsewhere, including speculation about browser technology, are not confirmed in the quoted statement.
Which TVs are affected?
The reported cutoff applies to 2020 Samsung Smart TVs using the Xbox app. It does not establish that every Samsung television from that year—or every model in every country—has identical app availability today. Samsung’s own compatibility information is model- and region-dependent.

To check your television’s exact model, open Settings → Support → About This TV. Samsung’s US Gaming page lists selected 2020 and 2021 models and streaming services, including Xbox. Its model lists are useful for identifying platform compatibility, but they should not be read as a promise that Xbox app support on 2020 sets continues past the reported November cutoff.
How can you keep playing?
The email quoted by Windows Central names these alternatives to the affected TVs:

- Samsung TVs from 2021 onward: The report includes newer sets as an option, but check the specific model and your country’s service availability before relying on it. Samsung Canada says Gaming Hub is available on select models since 2022 and select 2021 models with a software update; availability varies by country and model. See its Gaming Hub information.
- PCs, smartphones and tablets: These device categories are named in the reported email. Check Xbox Cloud Gaming availability for your device and region.
- Xbox consoles: Also named in the email; this is one possible route, not a requirement to buy a console.
Whether an alternative works for you depends on the exact device and region, as well as any account, subscription, controller and internet requirements for that setup. Samsung’s Canada guidance lists Game Pass, internet access and a compatible controller for Xbox Cloud Gaming on compatible Samsung TVs.
Will a controller or TV update restore support?
There is no indication in the reported notice that changing settings, updating the TV or pairing a different controller will restore Xbox app support on a 2020 Samsung set after the cutoff. A controller is an input device, not a way to reverse an app-support retirement.

For supported Samsung TV setups, Samsung documents compatible Bluetooth and USB controllers. Its Xbox app listing says cloud gaming requires a Microsoft account with an Xbox profile, a supported Bluetooth controller, internet access, and a supported region and TV. Catalog availability, server availability and wait times can vary. The listing shows version 4.70.698 updated May 27, 2026; that app update date does not guarantee continued support for every TV generation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is confirmed about the announcement?
The November 3 date and the operating-system explanation come from Windows Central’s reproduction of an email it attributes to Microsoft. The cited Samsung pages provide model and setup guidance, but they do not independently confirm this specific retirement. The distinction matters: this is a reported device-specific support change, not a reported end to Xbox Cloud Gaming as a service.
