Yes—Xbox Cloud Gaming supports keyboard and mouse in web browsers, but the feature is not new and it does not work with every cloud game. Microsoft began rolling it out on May 15, 2024. As of April 30, 2026, Xbox said more than 190 cloud games supported the input method.
The current development is the expanding game catalog, not a brand-new browser feature. Support is enabled title by title, so connecting a keyboard and mouse will not convert controller-only games into PC-style experiences.

When did Xbox Cloud Gaming add keyboard and mouse support?
Microsoft announced browser support on May 15, 2024, initially targeting Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. Later that month, Microsoft said support would also come to the Xbox app on PC, with compatible games identified by a keyboard-and-mouse badge.

That total can change as Microsoft adds games, removes titles, or changes regional availability.
What the support actually means
This is native game support, not a browser-wide compatibility layer. A supported Xbox game can receive keyboard and mouse input through the streamed session. An unsupported game will generally continue to expect a controller.
Third-party browser extensions and remapping tools that translate keyboard presses into virtual controller inputs are separate from Microsoft’s official feature. They may have different limitations and should not be treated as native support.
How to use a keyboard and mouse with Xbox Cloud Gaming
- Open xbox.com/play.
- Sign in with your Microsoft account.
- Choose a game showing a keyboard-and-mouse badge or support label.
- Connect the keyboard and mouse before launching, or connect them when the game prompts you.
- Click inside the game stream if the browser has not captured input.
- Open the game’s own control settings to change key bindings, sensitivity, or other available options.
There is no universal Xbox setting that enables keyboard and mouse for every game. Selecting a compatible title is the essential step.

How to find compatible games
Look for a mouse-and-keyboard badge on the Xbox Cloud Gaming listing, use Xbox’s keyboard-and-mouse category or filter, and check the game’s cloud-play information. Microsoft also provides a Microsoft Store filter for cloud-enabled games with console keyboard-and-mouse capabilities.
Filters are useful for discovery, but availability can differ by country, Game Pass plan, game edition, ownership status, and licensing changes. Do not assume that every title in a general keyboard-and-mouse list is streamable in every region.
Which browsers support it?
Microsoft’s original keyboard-and-mouse announcement specifically named Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. Xbox’s current cloud-gaming page also lists Edge, Chrome, and Safari as supported browsers for Xbox Cloud Gaming generally.

- Native keyboard-and-mouse support: whether the selected game and browser session can use those controls.
Safari is supported for Xbox Cloud Gaming generally, but that does not by itself confirm native keyboard-and-mouse controls for every Safari session. Edge or Chrome is the safer starting point when keyboard and mouse are the priority.

Supported devices and Steam Deck limitations
Microsoft’s December 2025 cloud-gaming guide described browser access on Windows and macOS PCs, iPhone and iPad, Android devices, ChromeOS, and Steam Deck. A device being able to launch cloud gaming does not guarantee an equally good mouse experience: mobile browsers may have limitations involving pointer capture, screen size, and operating-system input handling.
Steam Deck requires additional setup. Microsoft’s Steam Deck guide uses Desktop Mode, the Discover Software Center, and Microsoft Edge, with an option to add Edge to Gaming Mode. Microsoft says Edge on SteamOS is not officially supported and that it does not actively maintain the Edge Flatpak, so this is less straightforward than using a Windows PC or Mac.
Do you need Game Pass?
Most cloud gaming requires a compatible Game Pass plan, supported device, and supported region. Microsoft’s December 2025 guide identified cloud gaming as included with Game Pass Essential, Premium, and Ultimate. Plan names, prices, benefits, and catalogs can change, so check the current Xbox Game Pass page before subscribing.
There is an important exception: Xbox says some supported free-to-play games, including Fortnite, can be played through the cloud with a free Microsoft account, subject to availability and regional restrictions.

Xbox also supports streaming select cloud-playable games that users own or buy, but that does not mean every game sold through the Microsoft Store is available to stream.
Connection requirements
Microsoft recommends at least 20 Mbps for a stable cloud-gaming experience, along with Ethernet where possible. For wireless play, Microsoft recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi or 5G. These are recommendations, not guarantees.
Cloud gaming is sensitive to latency, jitter, congestion, Wi-Fi interference, distance from the Xbox data center, browser behavior, and device performance. A fast download speed cannot completely compensate for an unstable connection.
Keyboard and mouse versus a controller

Keyboard and mouse can improve aiming and menu navigation, but cloud streaming still adds network latency and image compression. The streamed game is the Xbox version, not necessarily the PC version. Compared with local PC gaming, it may offer fewer graphics options, different menus, fewer key-binding choices, no mod support, different frame-rate limits, and limited ultrawide support.

Troubleshooting
The game launches but ignores the keyboard
- Confirm that the game has a keyboard-and-mouse indicator.
- Click inside the stream to give it focus.
- Disconnect and reconnect the peripherals.
- Reload the page and connect the devices before launching.
- Try Edge or Chrome.
- Test another known-compatible game.
The mouse moves the browser pointer instead of the camera
The game may not have captured the pointer, or the browser or operating system may be restricting pointer lock. Click the stream again and look for an in-game prompt to capture the mouse. If possible, try a desktop-class device and browser. Some titles may support keyboard input without providing reliable mouse-look behavior in a particular cloud session.
Only some keys work
The game may support only a limited keyboard layout or require control configuration in its own settings. A keyboard working for browser typing does not prove that the streamed game supports keyboard input.
The player expects every game to work
This is the most common misunderstanding. Xbox’s 190-plus figure, dated April 30, 2026, represents a substantial but limited portion of the cloud catalog. A controller remains necessary for games without native support.
What to buy, if anything
A basic wired USB keyboard and mouse are the simplest choices for a compatible desktop or docked setup. Devices with only USB-C ports may need a hub or dock. For wireless peripherals, check that the computer, Chromebook, or handheld supports the required Bluetooth connection or USB receiver.
Prioritize reliable operating-system recognition, a consistent mouse sensor, suitable cable length, and compact dimensions for handheld use. Remappable keys help only when the game itself supports custom bindings. Microsoft’s April 2026 update also refers to wired USB mice and keyboards for navigation in select games and apps, but no particular peripheral should be described as Xbox Cloud Gaming-certified without explicit manufacturer or Microsoft confirmation.
Verdict
Xbox Cloud Gaming is now considerably more useful for PC-style play: browser keyboard-and-mouse support is real, and Xbox said more than 190 cloud games supported it as of April 30, 2026. But “finally supports” is outdated, and the feature is not universal.
Use Edge or Chrome, select a game with the proper support indicator, and expect title-specific controls. For supported shooters, strategy games, and management titles, it can be a convenient alternative to a controller. It remains a convenience and accessibility improvement—not a complete replacement for local PC gaming.
