Xbox will publish PHYSINT, expanding its partnership with Hideo Kojima’s Kojima Productions beyond OD. Xbox announced the milestone on September 9, 2026, and Kojima Productions confirmed it the following day. The announcements also describe plans to collaborate in film and television, but do not disclose a contract value, platform lineup, exclusivity terms or release date.
What is the new Xbox–Kojima deal?
It is an expansion of the existing Xbox–Kojima Productions relationship: Xbox is identified as the publishing partner for PHYSINT, Kojima’s upcoming action-espionage project. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said Kojima had chosen Xbox to work with the studio on the game. Kojima said the project would continue the relationship beyond OD and reaffirmed the goal of redefining the action-espionage genre.
The announcements describe a publishing partnership, not the terms of a publicly disclosed contract. They do not state when the agreement was signed or disclose its value, an exclusivity clause, or a required platform. Xbox’s announcement and Kojima Productions’ confirmation do not establish that PHYSINT is an Xbox exclusive.
How the partnership reached this milestone
- June 12, 2022: Xbox announced a partnership with Kojima Productions to create a game using Xbox cloud technology. The announcement did not name the project. Xbox’s 2022 announcement.
- December 7, 2023: Kojima Productions and Xbox Game Studios revealed OD. Kojima described it as an effort to create a distinctive, immersive game or a new form of media using Xbox’s cloud gaming technology. Jordan Peele was named among the storytellers involved. Xbox’s OD announcement.
- September 2026: Xbox announced that the partnership had expanded to include PHYSINT, and said collaboration would extend beyond the games into film and television. The statement did not identify specific screen projects or schedules.
- September 17, 2026: Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show recap named Bill Skarsgård as the lead actor in PHYSINT and reported that the broadcast included updates on both OD – KNOCK and PHYSINT. Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show recap.
Is PHYSINT an Xbox exclusive?
The official announcements cited here do not say that PHYSINT is exclusive to Xbox. They identify Xbox as the publishing partner but do not list supported platforms or confirm a console requirement. Publishing involvement alone does not establish exclusivity, so claims about an Xbox-only release go beyond what these announcements say.
