Xbox Fallout Pip-Boy Controllers Compared: Standard vs. Elite Series 2

Xbox has announced two Fallout Pip-Boy controllers. The standard Xbox Wireless Controller – Fallout Pip-Boy runs on AA batteries and is the direct match for the design. The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 – Fallout Pip-Boy adds adjustable-tension thumbsticks, shorter hair trigger locks, interchangeable components and an internal rechargeable battery. Xbox announced both variants on December 10, 2025, and presents both as customizable through Xbox Design Lab for a limited time.

What Xbox announced

Xbox’s announcement, published on Xbox Wire on December 10, 2025, names both variants and points to the Fallout-themed design. The Xbox product page for the controllers, which uses the en-GB storefront, lists the model names, customization options, compatibility and battery specifications. Those official pages are the source for every specification below, and the figures are Microsoft’s and Xbox’s own.

The two models share the Pip-Boy design language but differ in hardware. The standard controller is the closest match to a conventional Xbox controller. The Elite Series 2 is the premium option, with more adjustable and replaceable parts.

Standard model: the direct match

The standard controller keeps the conventional Xbox controller hardware and adds the Pip-Boy look through Design Lab options. Its main practical trade-off is power. It uses AA batteries rather than an internal cell, so you can swap in ordinary batteries, but you do not get the built-in charging of the Elite Series 2. The listed device range is also broader: Android and iOS appear alongside Xbox consoles and Windows, though feature support depends on the device and version.

Elite Series 2 model: the premium comparison

The Elite Series 2 changes the hardware more than the appearance. Adjustable-tension thumbsticks, shorter hair trigger locks and interchangeable components are the differences that matter in use. These are the parts most players will feel. The internal rechargeable battery removes the need for AA cells, but it also means the controller’s battery is not a user-replaceable item in the way AA cells are. Xbox’s stated battery estimate matches the standard model at up to 40 hours, although Elite’s figure applies per charge.

Customizing through Xbox Design Lab

Both controllers are sold as Design Lab customizations, and Xbox’s product page uses this wording: “Customise yours exclusively with XBOX Design Lab for a limited time, additional customisation costs may apply.” The phrase “for a limited time” comes from Xbox and does not give an end date. Treat it as an availability window rather than a fixed edition run. Expect extra charges for some options, since Xbox states that additional customization costs may apply.

Price and stock: a dated snapshot

As of October 8, 2026, the Microsoft U.S. Store listing for the standard controller showed $98.97 with the status “Out of stock.” That is a single listing snapshot in one region, not a manufacturer’s suggested retail price, and it may change without notice. No price or stock status for the Elite Series 2 appeared in the official listings checked on the same date, so the two cannot be compared on cost from these sources. Because the configured price depends on the customization chosen, verify the figure on the exact configuration before buying.

Optional accessory: Xbox Rechargeable Battery + USB-C

Microsoft’s product page lists an Xbox Rechargeable Battery + USB-C separately from the controllers. It is an optional accessory, not a requirement for either model. The listings checked do not state which controller it is designed for, so confirm compatibility on its own listing before you buy it.
