Free Play Days does not require Ultimate. Xbox’s US Free Play Days page lists Game Pass Essential, Premium, and Ultimate members as eligible to try selected games for a limited time. The current page uses the name Essential; Core is older wording that still appears on a legacy Xbox page.
Which Game Pass plans include Free Play Days?
Xbox lists all three current US plans—Essential, Premium, and Ultimate—as eligible for Free Play Days. The offer is a limited-time chance to try selected games, not a promise that every game will be available to every member or remain available indefinitely. Xbox says new games are added weekly, so check its Free Play Days page for the titles and terms currently on offer.

Is Game Pass Core the same as Essential?
The title’s “Core” wording reflects an older plan name. Xbox’s current US Free Play Days page calls the eligible lower tier Essential. A legacy Xbox Live Gold page says Gold became Game Pass Core and mentions select Free Play Days, which helps explain why Core appears in older references. That legacy page should not be treated as the definitive current plan comparison, and it does not establish that Core is the current name used on Xbox’s offer page.

Should you upgrade to Ultimate for Free Play Days?
No—not if Free Play Days is the only reason. Essential is included in Xbox’s current eligibility list, so Ultimate is not required for access to the offer. Consider Ultimate only if its other current features are worth the additional cost to you. Xbox describes it as a higher-feature plan with a larger library and additional included services; compare the current benefits for your market, including the library, platform access, cloud play, and services you would actually use.
Free Play Days is separate from a plan’s game library
Free Play Days features selected games for a limited time. It is distinct from the broader library included with a Game Pass plan. Use Xbox’s live Free Play Days listing to confirm which titles are featured now and review the terms for a particular game rather than assuming the weekly selection is a fixed catalog.
