Sign out and back in across Xbox, the Xbox app, Microsoft Store, and Microsoft Rewards, then run a controlled test. Persistent failures require Microsoft Rewards Support because community forums cannot repair backend quest progress.
What must be true for a Game Pass Daily Quest to count
Xbox’s January 6, 2025 announcement says Game Pass Quests are available through the Rewards Hub on an Xbox console, the Xbox mobile app, and the Xbox app for Windows PC. The gameplay-earning rules are narrower than simply owning an Xbox or opening a Game Pass game.

The age, catalog, platform, and subscription rules come from Xbox’s announcement; individual quests can still have their own wording and limits. Read the exact text in the Rewards Hub rather than assuming every daily quest has an identical threshold.
Fix the quest in a controlled sequence
Work through these checks in order. After each change, use the same account and the same eligible title so that you can tell which variable affected tracking.

Confirm the subscription, age, game and region
Open the Rewards Hub on your console, in the Xbox mobile app, or in the Xbox app for Windows PC and read the quest requirements. Verify that the signed-in account has an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass membership, meets the age rule displayed for gameplay rewards, and is playing a title currently listed in the Game Pass catalog for your region.
Do not rely on a game’s old inclusion date. Catalog membership and regional availability can change, and a title that appears in a library may have been purchased separately rather than supplied by Game Pass. For Windows PC, check whether the quest supports the way that title launches. Xbox said PC games requiring third-party launchers or played on Battle.net were excluded at launch; such exclusions mean successful gameplay alone will not prove that the quest should count.

Make every Xbox and Rewards surface use one Microsoft account
Check the account identity in four places: the Xbox console profile, the Xbox app, Microsoft Store, and the Microsoft Rewards dashboard. Compare the email address or account identifier, not only the gamertag. A family member’s profile, a second Microsoft login in the Store, or a browser session left on another account can split subscription entitlement from Rewards tracking.

If the subscription is on one account and the quest is open on another, changing games or reinstalling an app will not transfer credit.

Remove VPN, proxy and region interference
Turn off VPN and proxy connections on the console, PC, phone, and network path used for testing. Avoid changing the device region or account market while you troubleshoot. Microsoft says activity that appears to come from outside the current market may not be credited.

After disabling location-altering services, close the Rewards page and reopen it. A clean test should use your ordinary connection and the market associated with the account. Do not repeatedly switch regions to make a catalog item appear; that creates another tracking variable and can leave the activity looking inconsistent.

Restart the tracking session
Sign out of the Xbox app, Microsoft Store, and Microsoft Rewards dashboard, then sign back in with the same account. On console, sign out of the Xbox profile and sign back in as well. Fully close the apps before reopening them so an old session token is not reused.

It is a troubleshooting step, not a guarantee that a previously missed session will be backfilled.

Run an eligible, uninterrupted test
Launch the game from the Xbox app or console rather than from an unrelated shortcut, and play continuously while the quest is visible in the Rewards Hub. Use a title you have just confirmed is in the catalog and avoid switching accounts, devices, games, or launchers during the test.
The June 24, 2026 Q&A guidance suggests playing for more than 15 minutes as a diagnostic. Treat that figure as support guidance, not a universal published threshold: a particular quest may require a different minimum. Keep the start time, end time, platform, and approximate duration so you can report them if the test fails.

Check daily limits, deadlines and time settings
Microsoft says daily limits, late completion, device time-zone differences, and account mismatch can affect earning or streaks. Look at the quest’s date and completion window before testing. A session that crosses the local date boundary, occurs after the quest expires, or follows earlier activity that reached a daily limit may not add another credit.

Do not interpret a delayed balance as immediate proof of failure; first refresh the Rewards Hub after the session and allow the service to synchronize.

Record the result before changing anything else
Capture the quest wording and status before play, then capture the status afterward. Note the exact title, platform, subscription tier, account used, region, local time and UTC time if available, and the approximate uninterrupted play duration. These details distinguish an eligibility problem from a delayed or account-specific tracking problem.
Why a game can launch but still not register
The entitlement is on a different account
Xbox can launch a purchased game or a title shared through console settings even when the active Rewards account does not own the qualifying Game Pass entitlement. The quest follows Microsoft-account activity, so confirm the account that opened the Rewards Hub is the account whose subscription and gameplay are being evaluated.
The title is outside the current catalog
Game Pass availability is not permanent and can vary by region. A title can remain installed after leaving the catalog, or appear in search results while unavailable in your market. Check the current catalog listing and the quest’s wording at the time of play.

The Windows launch path is excluded
Xbox’s January 2025 announcement specifically noted that PC games requiring third-party launchers or played on Battle.net were excluded at launch. If the game hands off to another launcher, the game may not expose the activity signal the quest expects. Try a supported catalog title that launches directly through the Xbox app for a cleaner diagnostic.
The play session was too short or interrupted
Game Pass Quests require minimum playtime. Pausing indefinitely, quitting before the threshold, changing profiles, or moving between games can prevent a qualifying session. The more-than-15-minute test is useful for diagnosis, but only the quest’s own requirement determines completion.
Rewards data has not synchronized
Quest progress is tied to Microsoft Rewards account tracking, not only to the local state shown on a console. A stale app or browser session can display an old balance. Signing out and back in on each Rewards surface addresses the session side; it cannot repair backend records that were never created.

Do not label the issue a service-wide outage without an Xbox or Microsoft service-status notice. Recent Microsoft Q&A discussions describe untracked play as account-specific in some cases, and the available guidance does not confirm a current outage.
An account-specific pattern is more likely when another eligible title works, another account on the same device earns credit, or the quest fails only for one account or region. A broader service problem becomes more plausible when multiple eligible accounts, platforms and titles stop updating at the same time and an official status notice reports it. Continue documenting the failed test rather than repeatedly replaying the same session.

What to do when the quest still will not complete
Contact Microsoft Rewards Support for a persistent failure. Microsoft-hosted Q&A guidance explains that forum responders cannot inspect or repair backend account tracking, so a community reply cannot manually award the missing progress.
Include a concise evidence package:
- The Microsoft account email or Xbox gamertag used during the test.
- The exact quest wording and screenshots showing its status before and after play.
- The game title, platform, and launch route (console, Xbox app for Windows PC, or mobile context).
- Your Game Pass tier and confirmation that it was active during the session.
- Your region, whether a VPN or proxy was disabled, and the device time zone.
- The play date, local time and UTC time when possible, plus approximate uninterrupted duration.
- Any error text, subscription warning, missing balance or other message shown by the Rewards Hub.
- The account-synchronization steps you completed, including sign-outs and sign-ins across Xbox, Microsoft Store and Rewards.
Ask Support to review the account’s quest-tracking record rather than requesting a generic troubleshooting article. Keep the original screenshots and do not change the account region while the case is being investigated.
Common mistakes that waste troubleshooting time
- Testing with a purchased game: ownership does not establish that the title is currently an eligible Game Pass catalog item.
- Checking only the console profile: the Microsoft Store, Xbox app and Rewards dashboard can be signed into different accounts.
- Leaving a VPN enabled: location signals that do not match the account market can block credit.
- Treating 15 minutes as the rule: more than 15 minutes is a June 2026 support diagnostic, not a guaranteed threshold for every quest.
- Changing several variables at once: switching titles, devices, regions and accounts makes it impossible to identify the cause.
- Assuming a forum moderator can fix the balance: account-side tracking requires Rewards Support review.
A practical decision path
If the Rewards Hub says you need a subscription, first compare the signed-in account in the Xbox app, Store and Rewards dashboard; then verify that the account itself has Ultimate or PC Game Pass. If the subscription is correct but no progress appears, confirm the title’s current catalog and regional status, remove VPN or proxy services, and repeat the sign-out/sign-in sequence.
