Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has reportedly described a next-generation “family of devices” led by a console, with some players in mind who are “on the go.” That is not confirmation of a handheld Project Helix or a Steam Deck-style Xbox. Xbox’s official announcement describes Helix as a next-generation console for Xbox and PC games; it gives no portable model, consumer release date, or price.
What Sharma reportedly said about Gen-10 devices
Windows Central reported on October 6, 2026, that it had received a transcript of an internal Xbox town hall and verified it with trusted sources. The report attributes these remarks to Sharma:

“We are moving to a family of devices for Gen-10. There is not one device that fits all. We will certainly have a great console first, but we also know that many players will be on the go. There are some things that we are the best in the world to manufacture, and there are other things that will we partner on. So, we will be sharing more about that as our plans develop.”
The phrasing suggests Xbox is thinking about more than one kind of player or device, and puts a “great console first.” It does not say that one of those devices is a handheld, identify a partner for one, or describe what the “on the go” option would be. These were reported internal remarks, not a public product announcement. Windows Central’s report carries the transcript attribution.

Why the Steam Deck comparison is not a confirmation
“Pulling a Steam Deck” is a journalistic comparison prompted by the mention of players on the go. It is not wording attributed to Sharma, and the available statements do not confirm a Steam Deck-like Project Helix product. “On the go” could refer to a portable device, but the remarks do not specify the hardware or how it would work.
GamesRadar’s headline uses the Steam Deck framing while noting that Helix details remain scarce. Read it as an interpretation of the reported comments, not evidence that Xbox has announced a handheld. GamesRadar’s coverage makes that distinction relevant to the headline.

What Xbox has officially confirmed about Project Helix
In its March 11, 2026 announcement, Xbox described Project Helix as its next-generation first-party console, designed to play Xbox console and PC games. Xbox said it is developing the system with AMD around a custom SoC. It also said hardware alpha versions were planned to ship to developers beginning in 2027. That is a developer hardware milestone, not a stated consumer launch date. Xbox Wire’s GDC announcement is the official source for those details.
The announcement does not identify a portable Helix model, give a final Gen-10 device lineup, name a third-party Helix hardware partner, or provide consumer pricing or a release window. Xbox’s description of Helix playing both Xbox and PC games establishes its intended game compatibility; it does not establish a handheld form factor.

The existing Xbox handheld comparison: ROG Xbox Ally
Xbox and ASUS have announced the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X, which are Windows handhelds—not Project Helix devices. Xbox says they can play games natively, use cloud gaming, or stream remotely from an Xbox console, and provide access to Xbox and other PC storefronts. They are a concrete example of Xbox-branded handheld gaming hardware, but their existence does not establish that a future Helix family will include a portable model. Xbox Wire’s Ally announcement and the Xbox podcast transcript describe the devices and their features.
