For a first-time Xbox owner, consider a console; for someone who already plays, a controller, Game Pass, or storage upgrade is a more targeted gift. Xbox’s December 2023 guide recommended the Series S Starter Bundle, customizable controllers, the Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, Game Pass Ultimate, and Series X|S storage expansion. Its bundle and service details are historical, so check current listings and terms before buying.

For a first-time Xbox owner: Series S
A console is the most complete gift for someone who does not yet own an Xbox. Xbox recommended the Series S Starter Bundle in 2023 and said it included three months of Game Pass Ultimate. That is a description of the 2023 bundle only—not confirmation that the bundle or subscription offer is available now. Check the Microsoft Store Xbox catalog for current console and bundle listings, and confirm exactly what any listing includes.
For an existing player: choose a controller
Xbox Wireless Controller for a personal or practical gift
A standard Wireless Controller is a straightforward physical gift for an Xbox owner. Xbox’s 2023 guide also suggested using Xbox Design Lab to customize a controller, including engraving. Since design options can change, review the current choices before promising a particular color, finish, or personalization feature.

Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 for advanced customization
For a player who would appreciate more control options, Xbox recommended the Elite Wireless Controller Series 2. Its 2023 guide highlighted adjustable thumbsticks and rubberized grips. Consider whether those features suit the recipient’s preferences; a more feature-focused controller is not automatically the right choice for every player.
Xbox’s Accessories & Controllers page is the official place to check the current Wireless and Elite Wireless Series 2 controller range. Confirm the exact model and availability before purchasing.

For more games: consider Game Pass
Xbox included Game Pass Ultimate among its 2023 gift suggestions. Subscription plan names, prices, gifting availability, and redemption rules are not confirmed by that historical recommendation, so verify all of them through a current official listing before choosing a subscription gift. The three-month inclusion mentioned in the 2023 Series S Starter Bundle should not be treated as a standing offer.

An Xbox Series X|S expansion card is a practical option for a recipient who wants additional console storage. Xbox recommended expansion cards in its 2023 guide, and its accessories page lists storage solutions for Series X and Series S. Before ordering, confirm that the exact card is compatible with the recipient’s console and choose a capacity that suits their needs; the available evidence does not establish current capacities, prices, or stock.
