What does error 0x87DD0006 mean?
The code generally indicates that an Xbox console or Xbox application could not complete sign-in to Xbox or Microsoft services. It can happen during a service-side disruption, but it can also result from a temporary authentication problem, a network or DNS issue, a stale account session, or a console or app software problem. The error code is not, by itself, proof that Xbox Live is down, and no single fix is guaranteed.
Microsoft provides an error-specific support page for 0x87DD0006. Do not confuse it with nearby error codes such as 0x87DD0033; similar-looking codes are not interchangeable.

What to do first
- Check Xbox service status. Review the categories relevant to your issue, especially Account & profile and sign-in. Note whether Microsoft identifies a region, platform, or particular service.
- Compare the scope. Check whether the failure affects one account or several, one device or multiple devices, and Xbox sign-in alone or other Microsoft services too. These clues help narrow the cause but are not definitive tests.
- If Microsoft lists an outage, wait. Follow the status notice and try again after service is restored. Repeated password attempts, account removal, and network resets are unlikely to repair a Microsoft-side failure.
- If no outage is listed, troubleshoot the affected device and connection. Start with a restart and a network test before making account or router changes.

If the status page shows no outage: troubleshoot by platform
Xbox console
- Fully restart the console, then try signing in again.
- Open Settings, then find Network settings (often under General) and run Test network connection. If offered, also run Test multiplayer connection. Labels and paths can vary by console generation and software version, so use the labels shown on your device.
- Check whether other devices can reach the internet and confirm the console is connected to the intended network. If possible, try a wired connection or a different network, such as a mobile hotspot. If sign-in works on another network, a router, DNS, or connection issue becomes more plausible.
- If other devices also have internet trouble, restart the modem and router. Do not factory-reset networking equipment as an initial step.
- If service appears normal, sign out and back in where the interface allows it, and confirm you are using the intended Microsoft account. Avoid removing the account from the console unless simpler steps have failed and you can sign back in with the required credentials.
Xbox app on Windows
- Restart the PC and relaunch the Xbox app.
- Update the Xbox app through Microsoft Store, install pending Windows updates, and ensure Gaming Services is current; restart after installing updates.
- Check whether Microsoft account sign-in works in a browser and whether other Microsoft services are affected. If only the Xbox app fails, the problem may be local to the app, Windows account session, or related services rather than a wider Xbox outage.
Microsoft’s Xbox developer documentation discusses sign-in problems involving Xbox Live Auth Manager and Gaming Services, as well as restarting and keeping components current. Xbox 360 and other device differences
Xbox 360 sign-in flows and older services can behave differently from Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, or cloud gaming. Confirm the status and support instructions for the device you are using rather than assuming a console or PC outage has the same scope everywhere.
How to tell an outage from an account or network problem
Use these signals as clues, not conclusive tests:
- More consistent with a wider service problem: multiple accounts and devices fail around the same time, especially when Microsoft posts a relevant status alert.
- More consistent with a local or account-specific problem: one account fails while others work, the Xbox app fails while browser sign-in succeeds, or the issue disappears on a different network.
- Not decisive on its own: other internet services working does not rule out either an Xbox-specific outage or a local Xbox connection issue.
An account suspension or other enforcement action is separate from a service outage. If you see an enforcement notice or only one account remains unable to sign in, use Microsoft’s account suspension and ban guidance rather than treating it as proof Xbox Live is down.

When to contact Xbox Support
Contact Xbox Support if the status page shows no relevant outage and the error persists after restarting and checking the network, or if multiple Microsoft-account functions fail. Seek account-specific help if the account appears locked, suspended, or inaccessible. When reporting the issue, include the exact error code, platform, region, when it began, and which service-status categories you checked.
