Xbox’s worldwide console price increases took effect on August 1, 2026, adding US$100 to 512 GB models and US$150 to 1 TB models. If you want a lower price today, the clearest verified option is Microsoft’s Certified Refurbished Xbox catalog in the United States. On October 8, 2026, that catalog displayed four Series S and Series X models between $100 and $150 below their listed former prices.
What changed on August 1, 2026
Xbox announced the increases in a June 25, 2026 post bylined “Team Xbox.” The new prices apply worldwide by storage tier, according to Xbox. The amounts are stated in US dollars, and this article does not establish local-currency equivalents for other countries.

Why Xbox says prices are rising
Xbox says console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5 times, and it expects another doubling by fall 2027. This is the company’s own explanation. The sources reviewed for this article do not include an independent, published measurement of the wider console market, so treat these figures as Xbox’s account of its component costs rather than a verified industry statistic.

What “Certified Refurbished” means here
Microsoft’s catalog describes these consoles as professionally inspected, cleaned, repaired, and tested. Microsoft’s Certified Refurbished Xbox FAQ states: “Certified Refurbished consoles are fully functional, updated with the latest system software, and repackaged with all necessary accessories.” The catalog also says the consoles are repackaged with standard accessories and manuals, and that every Xbox console includes a 90-day warranty, with optional extended warranty coverage.
How the discounts are worded
Xbox’s announcement said certified refurbished consoles were available at Microsoft Stores for up to US$100 off MSRP. The catalog currently shows $150 reductions on the two Series X models, so the wording in the announcement and the catalog do not match exactly. Use the model-specific figures in the table above. The reductions are measured against the former prices the catalog displays, not against a separately verified MSRP.

Compare Series S and Series X by tier, not by discount
Series S and Series X are different product tiers, so a lower Series S price is not a like-for-like discount on a Series X. Compare the following before you decide:
- Exact model and storage. The Series X 1TB Digital Edition is listed as a separate model from the Series X, and the Series S 1TB is listed separately from the base Series S.
- Condition. Every price above is for a certified refurbished console, not a new one.
- Reduction versus the displayed former price, which is the figure the store shows for each model.
- Warranty and included accessories, as described by Microsoft.
- Stock and shipping region. The catalog figures apply to the U.S. Microsoft Store only.
Financing and payment options
Xbox’s announcement describes several payment routes for eligible Xbox hardware:

- Interest-free financing of up to 12 months through partners.
Xbox says payment options vary by region, and third-party credit is subject to status, eligibility, and terms. The announcement does not name the partners involved.
Previously played consoles: what is and is not confirmed
Xbox also said it is working with retail partners on lower-priced previously played consoles. The announcement does not name the sellers, give live prices, or describe condition standards or warranties for that program. This article therefore cannot recommend a retailer or price for previously played units. If you consider one, check the following first:
- Confirm the seller is named in an official Xbox source for the program. If no official source names them, treat the offer as unverified.
- Read the listed condition grade and whether a warranty is included, and its length.
- Check the return policy before paying.
- Note the date you checked, because prices and availability change.
Checklist before you buy
- Open the product page for the exact model and storage tier you want, and check that the page is labelled Certified Refurbished.
- Compare the former price and current price on that page with the figures in this article, and use the page’s own numbers if they differ.
- Check stock and the ship-to region. The offers described here are for the U.S. store.
- Confirm the warranty you will receive and whether you want the optional extended coverage.
- Check financing eligibility and terms before choosing a payment method.
The Bottom Line
For a U.S. buyer who wants the lowest verified price today, a certified refurbished Series S or Series X from Microsoft’s store is the clearest option. New consoles now cost more than before August 1, 2026, and previously played offers remain unverified until Xbox names its partners and their terms.
