That does not mean every Xbox or component is suitable for owner repair: check the exact model and read its service guide before opening a console.
What Microsoft’s repair-support expansion means
In its February 2025 sustainability progress update, Microsoft described expanded ways for Xbox players to get repair support for consoles and accessories. The company frames repairability as part of keeping electronics in circulation and its broader waste-reduction direction. Where to find Xbox parts and repair guides
The Microsoft Repair Hub hosted by iFixit lists repair resources for Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X variants and controllers. Depending on the exact model and repair, listings include parts, guides and fix kits. Catalog coverage can change, and a part listed for one Xbox Series X version should not be assumed to fit another. Check the listing for your exact console model and replacement part before ordering.
The hub also points owners with warranty questions or who want to schedule a repair to Microsoft Support. It is a route to ask about service; the available sources do not establish a particular repair price, turnaround time, warranty decision or repair outcome.

Can you repair an Xbox yourself?
Possibly, but only if your exact model and the repair are supported and you have the necessary skills and tools. Microsoft’s Xbox Series S service guide says self-repair is intended for technically inclined people with relevant knowledge, experience and specialized tools.

- Whether self-repair is supported for your exact model.
- Whether the replacement part is intended to address the fault you have diagnosed.
- Whether you have the experience and skills the repair requires.
- Whether you have the specified tools for that procedure.
If any of those checks fails, use Microsoft Support to ask about repair options rather than treating a guide or parts listing as proof that a DIY repair is appropriate.
How repair fits into Xbox sustainability efforts
Repair support is one strand of Microsoft’s sustainability work, but it should not be confused with the company’s separate materials and energy measures. In a 2022 Xbox sustainability update, Microsoft reported that at least 28% by weight of the plastic mechanical components in an updated Xbox Series S used post-consumer recycled resin. The same update said Energy Saver uses around 20 times less power than Standby when the console is not in use or receiving updates. This is Microsoft’s comparison of those modes, not a lifetime-emissions estimate or a repair-related saving.
Separately, Microsoft said Xbox interventions to reduce energy used during console play avoided more than 1.2 million metric tonnes of CO2e across FY20–FY23, compared with use without those interventions.
