The official product is the Robot White Xbox Series X – 1TB Digital Edition, while the larger 2TB Galaxy Black model retains a disc drive.
Microsoft did release an all-digital Xbox Series X in 2024, but it was not the cylindrical “Brooklin” console described in leaked documents—and the rumored “Sebile” controller did not launch as described.
The product that reached consumers was the Xbox Series X – 1TB Digital Edition in Robot White. It has no optical disc drive, a 1TB custom NVMe SSD, and the same principal Series X performance profile as the disc-equipped model. Microsoft listed an estimated retail price (ERP) of $449.99 in the United States for select markets. The other major refresh was the Xbox Series X – 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition, which retained a disc drive and launched at $599.99 USD / €649.99 ERP in select markets.
Here is what the 2023 leak suggested, what Microsoft ultimately shipped, and what it means if you are deciding which Xbox Series X to buy.
What was the leaked 2024 Xbox Series X refresh?
In September 2023, unredacted Microsoft court documents accidentally became public. The documents exposed internal planning for an Xbox Series X refresh codenamed Brooklin, alongside a redesigned controller codenamed Sebile.
#1 Best Overall
- MODERNIZED DESIGN — Experience the modernized design of the XBOX Wireless Controller with sculpted surfaces and updated geometry that enhances comfort and control during long gaming sessions.
- PRECISION PERFORMANCE — Stay on target with a hybrid D-pad and textured grips on triggers, bumpers, and back case for improved accuracy and handling.
- SHARE BUTTON: Seamlessly capture and share content such as screenshots, recordings, and more with the new Share button.
- VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY — Connect via USB-C for plug-and-play on console and PC, or quickly pair and switch between supported devices with XBOX Wireless and Bluetooth support.
- BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
Secondary reporting based on those documents described Brooklin as:
- an all-digital Xbox Series X with no disc drive;
- a cylindrical redesign rather than the familiar tower-shaped console;
- larger internal storage, reportedly targeted at 2TB;
- lower power consumption;
- a planned price of approximately $499; and
- a new controller bundled with the console.
Those were internal plans, not final specifications or a public product announcement. Microsoft later said that the leaked materials were old and that its plans had changed substantially. That distinction matters: Brooklin should be treated as a canceled, revised, or otherwise unreleased concept—not as the exact name or design of the console that eventually shipped.
What Microsoft actually released
On June 9, 2024, Microsoft announced three new Xbox Series X|S options for the holiday season:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- a 1TB Xbox Series S in Robot White;
- the Xbox Series X – 1TB Digital Edition in Robot White; and
- the Xbox Series X – 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition.
Microsoft said the new Series X models delivered the same speed and performance as the existing Series X family. The differences were primarily storage, exterior design, disc-drive configuration, and price—not a new generation of graphics hardware.
Xbox Series X – 1TB Digital Edition
The 1TB Digital Edition is the released product most closely related to the Brooklin rumor. It is a genuine all-digital Series X, but it is white and angular, not cylindrical, and it has 1TB of storage rather than the 2TB capacity associated with the leak.

| Feature | Xbox Series X – 1TB Digital Edition |
|---|---|
| Color | Robot White |
| Disc drive | None; digital games only |
| Storage | 1TB custom NVMe SSD |
| CPU | Custom AMD Zen 2 CPU |
| GPU | Custom RDNA 2 GPU, up to 12 teraflops |
| Memory | 16GB GDDR6 |
| Video output | HDMI 2.1 |
| Frame-rate support | Up to 120 frames per second in supported games and display setups |
| U.S. launch ERP | $449.99 in select markets |
Microsoft stated that the model was available beginning November 15, 2024, with availability varying by country. “ERP” means Estimated Retail Price; actual retailer pricing, promotions, taxes, and stock can differ.
If you are looking for the real console rather than the leaked concept, compare current retailer listings for the Xbox Series X 1TB Digital Edition. Check the product description carefully: the digital model must be identified as the 1TB Robot White edition and must not be confused with the disc-equipped 1TB Series X.

Xbox Series X – 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition
The premium 2024 Series X refresh went in the opposite direction from the digital-only model. The Xbox Series X – 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition has 2TB of storage and a special Galaxy Black finish, but it is not the all-digital Brooklin-style console described in the title.
| Feature | 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition |
|---|---|
| Color | Galaxy Black with a celestial effect |
| Storage | 2TB |
| Disc drive | Included |
| Controller | Matching special-edition Xbox Wireless Controller |
| Announced ERP | $599.99 USD / €649.99 |
| Availability | Limited quantities in select markets |
The included controller has a Galaxy Black D-pad and a Velocity Green back case. It is a themed version of the standard Xbox Wireless Controller, not the leaked Sebile redesign.
How the released digital model differs from Brooklin
The most common descriptions of the 2024 Xbox refresh combine leaked and released products. The differences are straightforward:
| Leaked Brooklin plan | Released 1TB Digital Edition | |
|---|---|---|
| Design | Cylindrical concept | White, angular Series X design |
| Storage reported or included | Planned larger capacity, commonly reported as 2TB | 1TB |
| Disc drive | None | None |
| Reported price | Approximately $499 planning target | $449.99 U.S. ERP in select markets |
| Status | Internal planning material; never released in that form | Official 2024 product |
Therefore, it is inaccurate to say that “Brooklin launched exactly as leaked.” The accurate summary is that Microsoft released a related all-digital Series X, but changed its design, storage configuration, and pricing before launch.

What was the Sebile controller?
Sebile was the codename attached to the controller shown in the leaked planning documents. Reporting about those materials described a more ambitious redesign than the controller Microsoft eventually bundled with its 2024 consoles.
The leaked controller plans reportedly included:
- a rechargeable, swappable battery;
- precision haptic feedback;
- an accelerometer;
- quieter buttons and thumbsticks;
- improved durability;
- direct-to-cloud functionality; and
- lift-to-wake behavior.
Microsoft did not announce a controller matching those specifications alongside the June 2024 console refresh. The leaked Sebile controller should not be presented as a 2024 product that consumers could buy.
Instead, the consoles used the familiar Xbox Wireless Controller design. It remains compatible with Xbox Series X|S and includes the dedicated Share button and Xbox ergonomics associated with the current platform controller.
For a replacement or multiplayer setup, a standard Xbox Wireless Controller is the relevant accessory—not evidence that Sebile launched. Color and special-edition options may vary by retailer and availability.
Which Xbox controllers did Microsoft release in 2024?
Microsoft did release several new controller designs during 2024, but they were special editions or customization options rather than the rumored Sebile hardware.

- March 5, 2024: Fallout Xbox Wireless Controller through Xbox Design Lab.
- May 7, 2024: Fire Vapor Special Edition controller.
- July 31, 2024: Sky Cipher Special Edition controller.
- September 24, 2024: Cipher transparent-design controller series.
These releases show that Microsoft continued to expand its controller range, but their existence does not confirm the battery, haptics, accelerometer, or quieter controls reported for Sebile.
What does “digital-only” mean for buyers?
The 1TB Digital Edition can play digitally purchased games and titles accessed through eligible Xbox subscriptions, but it cannot read physical game discs. That has several practical consequences:
- No disc games: You cannot install or play a game from an Xbox disc, even if you already own it.
- No disc-based backward compatibility: Backward-compatible games that depend on a physical disc still require a disc drive.
- No used-disc market: You are limited to digital storefront prices, subscriptions, and digital promotions.
- Digital licenses matter: Your access depends on the Microsoft account that owns the game and the applicable console or online licensing rules.
- Storage can fill quickly: A 1TB SSD does not provide 1TB of completely free space after system software and reserved capacity.
Digital buyers who install several large games may eventually want an Xbox Series X|S Storage Expansion Card. It is a more relevant upgrade for this console than an external USB drive when the goal is to play current-generation games directly from expanded storage. Verify compatibility, capacity, price, and current availability before buying.

Which 2024 Series X should you buy?
- Choose the 1TB Digital Edition if you buy games digitally, do not need discs, and want the lowest-priced Series X configuration.
- Choose the standard 1TB Series X if you want the optical drive for physical games, used games, Blu-ray playback, or disc-based backward compatibility. Microsoft listed its U.S. ERP at $499.99 in the November 2024 availability information for select markets.
- Choose the 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition if you need more built-in storage, want the special finish and matching controller, and are comfortable with its higher price and limited-quantity status.
- Wait for a different model only if you are specifically seeking Sebile features. The rechargeable swappable battery and haptic-feedback redesign were part of leaked plans, not confirmed features of a released 2024 controller.
Do not pay a premium for a listing that calls the white console “Brooklin” unless you have independently verified exactly what hardware is being sold. “Brooklin” was the leaked codename, not the final retail name of the 1TB Digital Edition.

The accurate answer to the original rumor
Microsoft ultimately released a 1TB all-digital Xbox Series X in Robot White for holiday 2024, but it was not the cylindrical Brooklin design shown in leaked planning documents. The leaked Sebile controller—with features such as a swappable rechargeable battery and haptic feedback—also did not launch in the form originally described. Microsoft instead refreshed the console lineup with a conventional Xbox Wireless Controller and several separate special-edition designs.
For buyers, the important choice is not whether to hunt for a “Brooklin” console. It is whether the official 1TB Digital Edition’s lower price and disc-free design suit the way you play, or whether the standard disc-equipped Series X or 2TB Galaxy Black model offers better long-term value.
