Deal status: The Xbox Series X and Series S Black Friday promotion behind the “up to 26% savings” headline was reported as live on November 27, 2025. It is not a current September 2026 offer, and the cited report does not clearly identify the exact console, retailer, or price that produced the 26% maximum.
Black Friday 2026 falls on November 27. Until then, shoppers should treat the 2025 claim as historical rather than assume the same discount is available today.

What was actually announced?
Cybernews reported that Xbox Series X and Series S Black Friday offers were live, with savings advertised at up to 26%. The page was updated on November 27, 2025, at 1:43 p.m. UTC−05:00.
However, the report does not clearly document the model, storage capacity, retailer, original reference price, sale price, or arithmetic behind the 26% figure. It also contains conflicting updates: earlier copy said the Series X was receiving the main discounts and that the Series S had no notable discount, while the later update said deals on both consoles were live.

That means “up to 26%” should be read as a maximum claim from a retailer roundup—not as a blanket 26% reduction on every Xbox console.

What did “up to 26%” mean?
The claim cannot safely be assigned to all Series X and Series S models. To verify a percentage discount, shoppers need five details:
- The exact model and storage capacity.
- Whether it was a disc or digital edition.
- Whether the unit was new, refurbished, or open-box.
- The retailer and seller of record.
- The original reference price and checkout price.
The calculation should be:
Percentage saving = (reference price − checkout price) ÷ reference price × 100

A headline percentage may also include a game, Game Pass access, a gift card, cashback, or a store-card discount. Those benefits are not the same as an unconditional reduction in the console’s price. A subscription you would not otherwise buy, an unwanted game, or retailer credit with restrictions should not be valued at full retail price.
Historical Microsoft reference prices
Microsoft’s U.S. pricing document dated October 3, 2025 listed these reference prices:
| Console | Historical U.S. reference price |
|---|---|
| Xbox Series S 512GB | $399.99 |
| Xbox Series S 1TB | $449.99 |
| Xbox Series X Digital | $599.99 |
| Xbox Series X | $649.99 |
| Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition | $799.99 |
These figures come from Microsoft’s October 3, 2025 pricing document. They are historical reference points, not September 2026 checkout prices.
Series X versus Series S: which deal is better?
Xbox Series X
The standard Series X is the choice for buyers who want a disc drive, 4K-oriented gaming, physical Xbox games, or backward-compatible discs. It is generally the more capable and flexible option, but its higher starting price means that a small discount may still leave it considerably more expensive than a Series S.
Rank #3
- BEST VALUE IN GAMING — Experience next-gen speed and performance in the smallest XBOX ever. The XBOX Series S delivers powerful all-digital gameplay in a sleek, compact design.
- UP TO 120 FPS GAMEPLAY — Enjoy smooth, responsive gaming with frame rates up to 120 FPS, powered by XBOX Velocity Architecture, a custom NVMe SSD, and DirectX Raytracing for a heightened level of realism.
- 512GB CUSTOM SSD AND XBOX VELOCITY ARCHITECTURE — Reduce load times dramatically with the custom 512GB NVMe SSD and XBOX Velocity Architecture, enabling lightning-fast performance and seamless world streaming.
- QUICK RESUME — Seamlessly switch between multiple games and resume exactly where you left off. No more waiting through title screens and loading bars.
- FOUR GENERATIONS OF DIGITAL GAMES — Play thousands of digital games from XBOX Series X|S, XBOX One, XBOX 360, and Original XBOX with backward compatibility. Many titles are enhanced for better visuals and performance. Smart Delivery ensures you always get the best version for your console.
The Series X Digital and 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition should be treated as separate products. Storage, finish, drive configuration, and included content can change the value significantly.
Xbox Series S
The Series S is all-digital and cannot play game discs. That makes it unsuitable for anyone who buys used physical games, borrows discs, or owns Xbox One and backward-compatible Xbox disc libraries.
The 512GB version has less storage than the 1TB model. Modern games can consume a substantial amount of space, so the cheaper console may not be the better long-term value if you soon need an expansion card. A larger Series S discount is not automatically the best deal.

Use an effective-cost calculation instead of accepting the advertised percentage:
Rank #4
- What's in the box: Xbox Series S 512GB console, 1 Wireless Controller, High Speed HDMI cable.
- CPU: 8X Cores @ 3.6 GHz (3.4 GHz w/SMT) Custom Zen 2 CPU; GPU: 4 TFLOPS, 20 CUs @1.565 GHz Custom RDNA 2 GPU; SOC Die Size: 197.05 mm2.
- Memory: 10GB GDDR6 128 bit-wide bus; Memory Bandwidth: 8GB @ 224 GB/s, 2GB @ 56 GB/s.; Internal Storage: 512GB Custom NVME SSD
- Gaming Resolution: 1440p; Performance Target: Up to 120 FPS; HDMI Features: Auto Low Latency Mode, HDMI Variable Refresh Rate, AMD FreeSync.
Effective cost = checkout price − realistic value of wanted gift cards and included content
Only subtract the value of a gift card if you would genuinely use it and understand its restrictions. For games, use the value to you—not the publisher’s theoretical list price. For Game Pass, check whether the offer is a trial, a fixed-term code, or a subscription that automatically renews.
Separate these offers in your comparison:
- An unconditional console price cut.
- A bundle containing a game or Game Pass.
- A retailer gift-card promotion.
- A coupon requiring membership or a minimum spend.
- A discount tied to a new store credit card.
- Financing or cashback requiring a particular payment method.
Should you buy now or wait?
There is no current 2025 Xbox Black Friday deal to buy in September 2026. For the next Black Friday season, use these rules:
- Buy early when the price is unconditional, the exact model is right for you, stock is limited, and the retailer offers a useful return or price-adjustment policy.
- Wait when the saving depends on opening a credit account, accepting an unwanted bundle, or assigning uncertain value to a subscription or gift card.
- Compare later waves because holiday console pricing can change through Black Friday and Cyber Monday. A later offer may be a lower cash price, a better game bundle, or a gift-card promotion.
Earlier Xbox holiday coverage noted that console offers can launch at different times and that some retailer promotions may sell out. Waiting can improve the deal, but it can also mean losing the preferred model or color.

Checkout checklist
- Confirm the exact model and storage capacity.
- Check whether the console has a disc drive.
- Verify that the product is new rather than refurbished or open-box.
- Check the seller of record, especially on marketplace listings.
- Compare the final delivered price after tax and shipping.
- Read Game Pass duration and automatic-renewal terms.
- Check gift-card expiration dates and usage restrictions.
- Review the return deadline, restocking rules, and price-adjustment policy.
- Confirm that the advertised price remains in the cart.
- Save a screenshot of the offer and its conditions.
Where to check future offers
For upcoming promotions, start with official listings from the Microsoft Store, Xbox sales page, Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and GameStop. Check condition, seller, membership requirements, shipping, and return terms on the product page—not just the search-result headline.
Retailer promotions serve different needs: Microsoft offers direct official fulfillment; Best Buy and Walmart may offer pickup; Target may attach gift cards; GameStop can be useful for trade-ins or refurbished hardware; Amazon’s marketplace requires particular attention to the seller and condition.
2026 update
Black Friday 2026 is Friday, November 27. The 2025 “up to 26%” figure should not be reused as a current 2026 price claim. Any future article or deal listing should be date-stamped and should identify the exact console, retailer, condition, reference price, sale price, and promotional restrictions.
