Xbox introduced a Snapchat-style Stories feature in its mobile app in May 2022, letting players share game clips, screenshots, and achievements with Xbox friends. It was a mobile Xbox feature—not a Snapchat integration—and Microsoft’s current app page no longer lists an Xbox Stories channel, so its availability today is not confirmed.
What Xbox Stories were
Microsoft announced Stories for the Xbox app on iOS and Android on May 3, 2022. The feature gave Xbox’s activity feed a Stories-style presentation for gaming updates. Players could share game clips, screenshots, and achievements, while friends could respond with messages or quick reactions. Microsoft first described the rollout as available in Australia, with other supported regions to follow; it was not presented as a worldwide launch on day one. The Snapchat comparison refers to the format: a channel of recent, temporary-looking posts. Xbox Stories were published inside the Xbox app and centered on gaming moments. They were separate from sending a capture to Snapchat, which is an external sharing destination.
How to create a Story in the original app
These are Microsoft’s launch-era instructions from 2022. App layouts and availability may have changed, so the steps are not a guarantee of what a current installation will show.

- Open the Xbox app on an iOS or Android device and go to the Stories channel on the home screen.
- Tap the “+” button on your gamertag.
- Choose a game clip, screenshot, or achievement from the gallery.
- Review the item on the preview screen.
- Optionally add a caption.
- Tap the post button in the lower-right corner.
What the 72-hour window meant
The Stories channel showed content from the previous 72 hours. Microsoft also said that material shared to Stories appeared on the user’s profile activity feed. The 72-hour description therefore applies to the Stories-channel window; the announcement did not say the corresponding activity-feed post was deleted after that period.

Is Xbox Stories still available?
Microsoft’s current Xbox mobile-app page describes capture sharing to Xbox chat, the activity feed, and external networks, but does not mention the 2022 Stories channel. That page does not establish whether Stories still appears for particular users, app versions, or regions. Check the current app rather than relying on the launch-era instructions; if the Stories channel is absent, use the currently documented sharing options instead.

What the Xbox app currently documents
Microsoft says the mobile app can bring console captures together and let users send them to Xbox chat, post them to the activity feed, or share them to external services. The page names Steam, Discord, Snapchat, and WhatsApp among the destinations. It also describes captures and achievements as shareable gaming material. The app is presented as part of the Xbox ecosystem for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC friends, but that does not mean every local PC recording automatically appears in the phone app: capture upload and synchronization can affect what is available.

- Xbox friends: use Xbox chat or the activity feed, with visibility governed by your Xbox privacy and social settings.
- People on another service: share to an available external destination such as Discord, Snapchat, or WhatsApp; that service controls the post experience and audience.
- A temporary Xbox Stories presentation: first confirm that the channel is present in your current app and region. Microsoft’s current public app description does not confirm it.
- A lasting copy of a capture: save or export the file rather than relying on a temporary feed presentation.
Fixes for missing Stories or captures
The Stories channel is missing
The original rollout began in Australia and was described as expanding to other supported regions. Because Microsoft’s current app page does not list Stories, a missing channel may reflect current availability or app layout rather than a setting you can necessarily restore. Confirm you have the Xbox app and the correct account, then use the capture-sharing options shown in your version.
The capture gallery is empty or a clip is missing
- Check that you are signed in with the Microsoft account associated with the capture.
- For console captures, confirm that the upload or synchronization to Xbox services has completed.
- Distinguish console captures from recordings stored only as local files on a PC. Microsoft’s mobile-app page describes sharing console captures; it does not promise that every Windows Game Bar recording will appear in the mobile gallery.
You want to post privately
Before sharing, review Xbox privacy, communication, and activity-feed settings—especially on a child or family account. An Xbox post and an external social post are governed by different services and audience controls.

Was it a console feature?
The Stories interface Microsoft announced was for the Xbox app on iOS and Android, not a Stories feature on the Xbox console dashboard. Captures could come from Xbox gameplay, but the creation and viewing workflow described at launch was mobile-based.
