XDefiant’s final update was Season 3, and Ubisoft said it included content originally planned for future seasons, including cosmetics, at no extra cost. A report by Insider Gaming characterized the update as drawing from five planned seasons; Ubisoft’s official description confirms the future-season content but does not independently enumerate that full five-season inventory.
What was in XDefiant’s final update?
Ubisoft’s Season 3 update was the game’s final content update after the company announced it was ending development. In its official final-update video description, published December 18, 2024, Ubisoft highlighted the Assassins faction, a new tactical experience, new maps and weapons. It also said: “As a thank you to all of our dedicated players, all content, including cosmetics, planned for future seasons will be available for free.”
Ubisoft’s description gives a high-level overview rather than a complete inventory of every item or its originally intended season. The more specific claim that the update included content from five planned seasons comes from Insider Gaming’s report, which points to patch notes and comments attributed to executive producer Mark Rubin. That five-season framing should therefore be treated as reported context, not as an independently confirmed Ubisoft statistic.
Why did Ubisoft stop developing XDefiant?
Ubisoft said the game had not attracted and retained enough players over the long term to compete in the free-to-play first-person-shooter market or justify significant further investment. In its December 3, 2024 announcement, the company described an encouraging start and a committed fan base, but said it had not reached the sustained player levels it aimed for. Ubisoft did not provide a final player-count statistic in that announcement.

When did XDefiant shut down?
Ubisoft announced that the servers would remain active until June 3, 2025. Its service-decommissioning page lists XDefiant’s online services as decommissioned on June 4, 2025. Those are the two dates Ubisoft published: June 3 was the announced last active date, while June 4 is the date on the later service list. The online service has since been decommissioned, so players can no longer start XDefiant as an online game.

XDefiant’s final-update and shutdown timeline
