Choose XSplit Broadcaster if you want a graphical, scene-based setup; choose FFmpeg if you are comfortable configuring a command line and want explicit control over looping and output options. Both can send prerecorded video to YouTube Live, but neither is shown by the available documentation to be more reliable, lighter on hardware, or suitable for unattended 24/7 streaming in every setup. If you do not want a computer and home connection to run the stream, StreamNeo is the cloud alternative: it loops uploaded video to YouTube, with any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot and a free first day.
At a glance: which should you choose?
| Need | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Visual scenes, sources, overlays, or source switching | XSplit Broadcaster | It is a graphical broadcaster organized around scenes and sources, with a Media Slideshow feature for playlists and continuous playback options. |
| A scriptable setup and explicit command-line options | FFmpeg | Its documentation provides an input option for looping indefinitely and options for configuring encoding and output. |
| To keep uploaded video streaming without leaving a PC running | StreamNeo | It loops uploaded video to YouTube from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. |
This is a workflow comparison, not a performance ranking. The available documentation does not establish a controlled head-to-head comparison of reliability, CPU use, or long-duration unattended operation.
How each tool handles looping and YouTube Live
XSplit Broadcaster: graphical setup
XSplit’s setup documentation describes adding sources to scenes and selecting a streaming output. Its YouTube Live guide describes configuring the output, authorizing a YouTube ID, setting broadcast details, and starting the broadcast. For a playlist, XSplit’s Sources Menu documentation describes Media Slideshow as a way to add multiple videos with continuous playback options; its product page also describes looping images or videos.
That establishes a visual playlist workflow, but not the exact name or location of a repeat control in every XSplit version. Check the controls in your installed version before relying on a particular click-by-click sequence. XSplit’s YouTube integration abstracts some connection setup, but you still need an eligible, activated YouTube channel and a configured live broadcast.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
FFmpeg: explicit input looping
FFmpeg documents -stream_loop as an input option: -1 means loop indefinitely and 0 means no loop. Input options belong before the input they apply to. For a prerecorded file, this illustrative pattern shows the placement:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i input.mp4 ... output
This is not a complete, tested YouTube command. You must choose the appropriate video and audio codecs, encoding settings, output container or protocol, and destination for your own file and stream. FFmpeg’s -re reads a file at its native frame rate; it can be useful when timing matters for live output. FFmpeg cautions against using a low read rate on actual capture devices or live inputs, where it can cause packet loss. Treat a prerecorded file and a live capture source differently.

Getting the stream to YouTube
For an encoder-based stream, YouTube’s guidance is to enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key in the encoder. XSplit documents a YouTube output integration; with FFmpeg, you configure the output yourself. YouTube channel activation or eligibility requirements may apply before a first stream, so check the current YouTube Live setup flow for your channel.
- Keep the stream key private. Do not put it in a public script, screenshot, repository, or chat. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before using it again.
- Confirm that the broadcast is configured for the intended audience and visibility before starting.
- Use video, music, and other material you have rights to stream. A live encoder does not make copyrighted material permissible, and a technically successful stream does not guarantee that YouTube will leave it available.
- Review YouTube’s current live-stream and monetization policies if you plan to repeat or compile prerecorded material; platform policy and rights questions are separate from whether a tool can loop a file.
Practical trade-offs
Setup and maintenance
XSplit is the more approachable choice if you prefer a visible interface and want to manage scenes and sources without building an output command. FFmpeg is more configurable at the option level, but you are responsible for constructing and maintaining the input, encoding, pacing, and destination settings. Neither removes the need to set up YouTube Live.

Computer requirements and encoding
XSplit’s product page lists Windows 10 64-bit, a 2nd-generation Core i5 or equivalent, 8 GB RAM, a GeForce- or Radeon-class graphics card supporting DirectX 10.1 or better, and 250 MB of available storage as minimum requirements; it lists a 2nd-generation Core i7 or equivalent as recommended. It also lists 500 kbps minimum upload for its lowest streaming settings and recommends 5 Mbps for HD. These are vendor-published figures, not independent measurements or a guarantee for a particular resolution, bitrate, or workload. XSplit says it supports NVIDIA NVENC. Actual performance depends on your system, media, settings, and network.
Long-running streams and reliability
A loop option only describes playback behavior; it does not guarantee an uninterrupted YouTube broadcast. A stream can still be interrupted by a computer restart, encoder failure, network outage, or YouTube disconnect. The documentation reviewed does not establish that either XSplit or FFmpeg is more reliable for 24/7 use. XSplit says its Premium License enables simultaneous streaming to multiple platforms such as Facebook Live and YouTube Live; do not assume that capability is included with every license.

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube does not receive the stream: confirm the current server URL and stream key, that the correct YouTube broadcast is selected, and that channel live-stream activation is complete. Never paste the key into a public troubleshooting post.
- The video plays once and stops: in FFmpeg, verify that
-stream_loop -1appears before the relevant-i. In XSplit, verify the Media Slideshow playback settings in your installed version; documented continuous playback does not establish one universal control label. - Video timing or playback appears wrong: check the file’s frame rate and audio/video compatibility with your selected output settings. For FFmpeg file input,
-recan pace reads at native frame rate; do not apply slow file-read pacing indiscriminately to live capture input. - The stream drops during a long session: inspect the local network, computer sleep or restart behavior, encoder status, and YouTube’s live control room. No documentation cited here proves either tool can automatically recover every dropped YouTube connection.
- The stream is blocked, claimed, or removed: check the video and audio rights and YouTube’s current live and monetization policies. Looping capability is not permission to broadcast material.

If your goal is a YouTube channel that keeps uploaded video live without leaving a home computer or connection running, StreamNeo is the #1 cloud option to consider here: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera, and it streams to YouTube only.
- Nothing has to stay on at home; StreamNeo loops from the cloud.
- Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot rather than quality tiers.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.

For a cloud option, StreamNeo’s billing choices are:
- Daily: $0.99 per day
- Weekly: $2.99 per week
- Monthly: $9.99 per month
- Six months: $49.99 for 6 months
- Yearly: $89.99 a year

Verdict
For visual scene and playlist management, start with XSplit. For a configurable, script-friendly file loop, FFmpeg’s documented -stream_loop -1 is the direct option. Neither should be treated as a guarantee of unattended uptime. If you want uploaded video to keep streaming to YouTube without an always-on PC, use StreamNeo’s cloud workflow instead.
