Yes—according to an October 2 report, Yankees manager Aaron Boone planned for Carlos Rodón to start Game 3 or, if needed, Game 4 of the ALDS against the Tampa Bay Rays. That is a reported plan, not an official game-day starter announcement; the available reporting does not settle which game he will pitch.
What is Rodón’s reported ALDS role?
RotoWire reported that Boone planned to use Rodón as a starter in Game 3 or a potential Game 4, citing The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner. The sourcing is a media report relaying Boone’s plan, rather than a Yankees or MLB game-day confirmation. RotoWire’s report
The exact start remains unresolved in the available sources: Game 4 would only be needed if the series reaches it, and no official announcement confirms the scheduled starter for either game.
Why did an earlier preview mention Rodón in the bullpen?
MLB’s September postseason FAQ described Rodón as a possible bullpen option for the Wild Card Series. That was a different round from the ALDS, so the earlier possibility of relief work does not conflict with the later reported plan to start in the Division Series. The FAQ also described an assumed Wild Card roster of 12 pitchers and 14 batters, based on the Yankees’ prior-year approach; those were preview assumptions, not an ALDS roster announcement. Rodón’s 2026 season and return from injury
MLB’s player profile lists Rodón with a 6–3 record and a 2.94 ERA in 14 starts over 70.1 innings during the 2026 regular season. Those are season results, not a forecast of his postseason performance. MLB player profile
The Yankees reported in October 2025 that Rodón had surgery to remove a bone spur from his left elbow. At the time, the club did not expect him to be ready for Opening Day 2026 and projected a possible return in April or early May. That was a forecast made before the season. What remains unconfirmed
- Whether Rodón ultimately starts Game 3 or a potential Game 4.
- Whether the Yankees issue a later official game-day announcement confirming his assignment.
- His availability beyond the reported plan and how many innings he might pitch.
A September 29 Associated Press report said Aaron Judge was left off the Yankees’ Wild Card Series roster because of a calf injury. That is roster context, not evidence of Rodón’s ALDS assignment. Associated Press report
