Yes: projects let you play Doom in a Minecraft context, but “inside Minecraft” describes different setups. One approach runs Doom in a virtual machine on the host computer and displays it through an in-game PC; another, NucleDoom, is a separate mod project built around playing Doom (1993) in Minecraft. Neither should be confused with Doom being recreated block by block in vanilla Minecraft.
What “playing Doom inside Minecraft” means
The phrase covers more than one technical approach. The distinction matters: in the VM Computers demonstration, Minecraft provided an in-game representation of a PC, while VirtualBox ran a guest operating system on the host computer. Doom ran in that environment, with its output shown in Minecraft. It was not a computer made entirely from Minecraft blocks independently executing Doom.
A separate project, NucleDoom, describes playing Doom (1993) within Minecraft through a dedicated mod. Its repository calls it “a perfect way to play the classic Doom (1993) in Minecraft!” That is the project’s own promotional description, not an independent performance assessment.

What to check before installing a mod
Compatibility is specific to the project and can change. Before downloading, consult its current project page and verify the Minecraft release, mod loader, dependencies, and whether it requires client-side installation, a server, or both.

- NucleDoom: Its repository lists Plasmid, Polymer, and Fabric API as dependencies. It also documents keyboard and mouse controls and says sound is supported, with a caveat about accuracy. Treat those as project-stated details rather than independently tested results. Check the NucleDoom repository.
- Play Doom on Screen: The surfaced Modrinth results list Java Edition 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 with Fabric and Forge. Because that page could not be retrieved for verification, confirm the current compatibility information on the Modrinth listing and the CurseForge listing before installation.
- VM Computers: The 2020 reporting describes a VirtualBox-based setup, but its old version requirement should not be treated as advice for current Minecraft or VirtualBox installations. The contemporary coverage explains the demonstration in TechSpot and PC Gamer.
What the demonstrations do—and don’t—show
TechRadar reported in June 2022 that a player ordered virtual PC components, assembled them in Minecraft, installed Windows 98, and then ran Doom. That is a report of a player’s demonstration, not a test by TechRadar. The 2020 VM Computers coverage likewise describes a host-computer virtual machine displayed through Minecraft; PC Gamer explicitly said its writer had not performed the setup. These examples establish that Doom can be played through Minecraft-related projects, not that every implementation works the same way, that every setup is current, or that a particular one is faster. The documented routes center on software and mod downloads; the available evidence does not establish a necessary physical purchase to reproduce the demonstrations.
