Yes. The official Friday Night Funkin’ project repository links to a playable web demo on Newgrounds, which you can try in a Chromebook browser. That browser version is separate from the downloadable desktop builds, and access or performance can vary with your device, browser settings, network, and any school or work restrictions.
How to open the official browser demo
- Go to the FunkinCrew project repository and follow its link to the Newgrounds web demo. The repository directs people who want to play to its linked releases.
- Open the demo in your Chromebook browser and allow the page to load. Newgrounds identifies JavaScript ES6, cookies, and WebGL among the browser components used for full site functionality; if the page fails to load, check that scripting and WebGL are available in your browser settings.
- If the page remains unavailable, check whether a network filter or device administrator blocks Newgrounds. A managed school or work Chromebook may restrict access, and those restrictions should not be bypassed.
These checks may help identify a browser or access problem, but they cannot guarantee that the demo will work on every Chromebook.
Which version works on a Chromebook?
The Newgrounds demo is the official browser-play route listed by the project. The repository separately lists downloadable demo builds for Windows, Mac, and Linux; it does not identify those desktop builds as ChromeOS versions.
| Route | What the official sources list | Chromebook relevance |
|---|---|---|
| Newgrounds browser demo | The repository links to the playable web demo. | Try this route in the Chromebook browser. |
| Itch.io desktop builds | Demo builds for Windows, Mac, and Linux. | Not listed as ChromeOS builds. |
| Mobile builds | Android and iOS releases, also listed in the repository and in the developer’s mobile announcement. | For compatible mobile devices, not needed for the browser route. |

Why it might not open or play well
- Browser support or settings: Newgrounds lists JavaScript ES6, cookies, and WebGL among components needed for full site functionality. An unavailable or disabled component can interfere with loading.
- Network or administrator controls: Schools and workplaces may filter game sites. A device administrator can also limit browser settings or access.
- Device-specific performance: The sources do not establish how the demo performs across Chromebook models, ChromeOS versions, or network conditions. A working page is not a guarantee of smooth play.
If the official page is blocked, do not substitute unofficial “unblocked” game sites or fan extensions for the project’s listed demo.

Google documents Steam for Chromebook Beta as a separate install-based route for select Chromebooks. Its published minimum hardware guidance is at least an Intel i3 or Ryzen 3 processor, 8 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of storage. Those figures apply to Steam for Chromebook Beta, not to the Newgrounds browser demo, which does not have Chromebook hardware requirements established in the cited sources.
