Video Games Chronicle reported the planned closure on October 17, 2024, but did not reproduce the legal notice or establish its specific demands or legal grounds.
What happened to Accord’s Library?
In a report published October 17, 2024, Video Games Chronicle (VGC) said Accord’s Library planned to shut down permanently on October 31, 2024, following a legal notice from Square Enix. That date was the archive’s announced closure plan as reported at the time; the report did not independently verify the site’s later status.
VGC reproduced a statement from Accord’s Library’s Discord announcement: “And after some private communication, based on the outlined requirements we have come to the conclusion that Accord’s Library must close its doors by the end of the month.” The statement was made by the archive’s team, not Square Enix.
What was Accord’s Library?
VGC described Accord’s Library as a fan archive of Yoko Taro’s work, collecting material related to Drakengard and NieR. The archive characterized itself as a fan-created website and community. It said it had started by gathering side materials and merchandise, then broadened its coverage to include news articles, lore, summaries, translations, and transcriptions.

Why did Square Enix send the legal notice?
The specific reason is not established in VGC’s report. VGC reported that Square Enix’s legal team contacted the archive, and Accord’s Library said private communication and outlined requirements led it to conclude that it had to close. The report does not reproduce the notice, specify what the requirements were, or state the legal grounds. It therefore does not support claims about which materials or rights were at issue, or whether a court made any finding.
What did the archive say about closing?
In the same announcement quoted by VGC, Accord’s Library said: “While we are sad to have to go, we also must respect the wishes of the Legal Team.” This reflects the archive’s account of its decision after communication with Square Enix; it is not a statement of the notice’s exact terms.
