Set the encoder to CBR with a 2-second keyframe interval, and do not exceed 4 seconds. These are YouTube’s live-ingestion settings, not its separate upload recommendations. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings before configuring a long-running stream.
1080p bitrate settings by codec and frame rate
“1080p” alone does not determine the bitrate. Match the setting to both the frame rate and the video codec your encoder sends to YouTube. The values below are YouTube’s live-stream recommendations and minimums for the listed combinations; they are not a special profile for 24/7 loops.
| Resolution and frame rate | Codec | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p30 | H.264 | 5 Mbps | 5 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | H.264 | 6 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
Use the row matching the actual output codec—not just the codec used to encode the original video. YouTube’s table gives the same minimum and recommended bitrate for each of these 1080p combinations. It lists RTMP or RTMPS as ingest protocols and recommends RTMPS, the encrypted option. YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate table can change, so verify it when setting up a new encoder.
Encoder settings that matter for a continuous loop
Rate control and keyframes
- Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate).
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Frame rate: YouTube’s listed live guidance supports up to 60 fps. Choose 30 or 60 fps to match the intended stream.
For SDR, YouTube lists Rec. 709 color space and 8-bit depth among its recommended advanced settings. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not define a separate bitrate, resolution, or guaranteed-uptime configuration for continuous loops.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Resolution and source video
Set the encoder’s output to 1920 × 1080 when you want a 1080p stream. Keep frame rate consistent with the material and planned output rather than selecting 60 fps automatically: 1080p60 uses a different H.264 recommendation than 1080p30, while the listed AV1/H.265 value is the same for both. An encoder may need to scale or otherwise process a source that does not match the selected output; check its preview for cropping, stretching, or unexpected frame-rate conversion.
Check upload capacity before going live
The connection must sustain the total outgoing stream bitrate, and YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom. Check upload capacity—not download speed—and account for other devices and traffic sharing the connection. Upload bandwidth can be lower than download bandwidth, and a shared or unstable connection can interrupt a long-running stream. YouTube’s streaming tips explain the bandwidth and reliability requirements.

- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- For a 5 Mbps stream, 20% headroom means allowing roughly 6 Mbps for the stream plus margin.
- For a 6 Mbps stream, allow roughly 7.2 Mbps for the stream plus margin.
- For a 4 Mbps stream, allow roughly 4.8 Mbps for the stream plus margin.
These are simple calculations from YouTube’s recommended 20% allowance, not separate platform bitrate targets. Leave additional capacity if other users or services may use the connection.
Configure, test, and monitor the YouTube stream
- Prepare the live stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Create or select the stream and copy its stream key into the encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to that stream. If it is compromised, reset it in Live Control Room. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
- Set the encoder output. Choose 1920 × 1080, the intended 30 or 60 fps, the codec you will send, the corresponding bitrate from the table, CBR, and a 2-second keyframe interval. Use RTMPS if supported by your encoder.
- Test with representative content. YouTube advises testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream. A static image can conceal problems that appear in a moving game capture or in the audio track. Open the Live Control Room preview before starting and inspect picture and sound.
- Start and watch stream health. Check YouTube’s stream health and monitor audio/video quality during operation. A successful initial connection does not establish that an internet connection or computer will remain available indefinitely. For YouTube’s encoder workflow, see Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Common problems and fixes
- Stream health reports unstable bitrate or dropped frames: confirm the outbound bitrate matches the selected codec and frame rate, check upload capacity with headroom, and reduce competing network use. If the connection cannot sustain the chosen setting reliably, lower the output bitrate or resolution and test again.
- Video looks soft or blocky: verify the encoder is actually outputting 1080p and sending the intended codec-specific bitrate. Check whether the source itself is low-resolution or the encoder is scaling it.
- Video stutters despite adequate speed: check encoder load and frame-rate settings, then test a shorter stream with representative movement. Network speed alone does not confirm the encoder can produce frames consistently.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: verify the stream key and destination, confirm the encoder is using a supported RTMP/RTMPS workflow, and check the Live Control Room preview. Reset the key if it may have been exposed.
- The stream stops when a computer or connection fails: a local encoder depends on that computer, power, software, and internet connection continuing to work. YouTube’s general live guidance does not promise uninterrupted operation for a 24/7 loop.
Is a dedicated hardware encoder required?
No. YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events, while noting that expensive equipment is not necessary to get started. A static or prerecorded loop does not by itself require a separate hardware appliance. Consider dedicated hardware only if it addresses a real need in your setup, such as production workflow or keeping encoding off a general-purpose computer. YouTube live streaming tips provide the platform’s guidance.
