YouTube’s built-in AI tools can generate images and video for Shorts, assist with editing, and create an avatar in a creator’s likeness. Availability differs by feature, country, language, and device, and some tools are experimental. The practical rule is to review every result and disclose AI use when generated or meaningfully altered material appears realistic.
What YouTube’s AI tools do
YouTube’s AI features are spread across Shorts, YouTube Create, and other creation surfaces rather than collected in one universal tool. The current feature set named in YouTube’s guidance includes Veo and Gemini Omni in Shorts; Nano Banana and Gemini Omni in YouTube Create; Dream Track in Shorts; Edit with AI; Photo to video; Make me move; AI Image and AI Video in Effect Maker; and AI stickers and posts. This is a changing list, not a guarantee that every creator will see every feature.
Generate images and clips for Shorts
Shorts generative features can create images or video from text prompts. Depending on the feature, a result can work as a green-screen background or as a standalone clip added to a Short. YouTube describes these features as experimental: treat the output as a draft to assess, not as a finished or verified asset.
Assist with editing and production
Edit with AI and other production features can help with parts of the creation process. The names and placement of tools may differ by app surface, and access can vary by location and language. Check the relevant feature in the YouTube app or YouTube Create rather than assuming it is available from YouTube Studio or on every device.

Create an avatar
Eligible creators can make a digital version of their appearance and voice using the YouTube mobile app or YouTube Create. YouTube says only the creator can use that avatar to make original videos, and the creator can delete it. Its current help guidance lists Australia, Canada, the United States, and New Zealand, with rollout to other countries gradual. Avatar videos carry YouTube AI disclosure, visible watermarks, and digital labels such as SynthID and C2PA.
How to use a built-in AI feature
The exact buttons and sequence depend on the feature, device, and account eligibility. For prompt-based Shorts creation, YouTube’s walkthrough follows this general flow:

- Open the creation surface. Start in the YouTube app or YouTube Create where the feature is available, then begin a post or Short.
- Choose the relevant tool. Select the image- or video-generation option, or the editing feature that matches what you want to make.
- Supply the requested input. Enter a prompt for generated media, or provide the source material requested by an editing feature. Avoid confidential or personal information in prompts.
- Review the preview. Inspect the result for mistakes, misleading details, privacy issues, copyright concerns, and whether a realistic person, event, or place is depicted inaccurately. Revise or discard it if needed.
- Add and finish the creation. Choose an output and add it to the Short or project, then review the complete video before publishing.
- Make the disclosure decision. If the output meets YouTube’s realistic, meaningfully altered-content standard, complete the AI use field in the upload workflow.
Generative safeguards can block some prompts, including prompts that violate policy or involve sensitive topics, but a block is not a substitute for reviewing what the tool produces. YouTube warns that generative AI can make mistakes. Creators remain responsible for the published video and for following Community Guidelines.
When AI use needs disclosure
YouTube’s rule is not simply “disclose whenever AI was involved.” Disclose AI-generated or meaningfully AI-altered content when it appears realistic. The relevant question is what viewers see in the finished video, not whether AI appeared somewhere in the workflow.

Examples that call for disclosure
- Making a real person appear to say or do something they did not.
- Altering footage of a real event or place.
- Generating a realistic scene that never happened.
- Using AI-generated music as the main focus of a video.
Use the AI use field in the upload workflow when the video falls within this rule. YouTube may also automatically disclose content made with its own generative AI tools.
Routine production help that generally does not, by itself, require disclosure
- Using AI for outlines, scripts, ideas, titles, thumbnails, infographics, or captions.
- Sharpening or repairing footage.
- Cloning your own voice for a voiceover or dub.
This is not a blanket exemption: if the finished video also contains realistic, meaningfully altered material, the disclosure rule still applies.

What viewers may see
YouTube’s viewer-facing “Made with AI” notices can be based on a creator’s disclosure, YouTube’s own generative tools, or qualifying Content Credentials. Labels and their presentation can change. YouTube’s May 27, 2026 TeamYouTube announcement says disclosure alone will not affect recommendations or monetization eligibility; it also warns that repeated failure to disclose can result in penalties. An August 3, 2026 update on the same announcement page discusses tracking automatically applied labels in Studio.

Before publishing, judge the finished video as a viewer would. AI output can look convincing while containing errors or presenting a fabricated scene as real. YouTube says its Community Guidelines apply and that creators remain responsible for their content.

Availability and common snags
A feature is missing
Feature access can vary by country, language, device, and rollout status. Check the current YouTube Help guidance for the specific feature and try the documented app surface, such as the YouTube mobile app or YouTube Create. The absence of a button does not establish that the feature is available to every account elsewhere.
The generated result is wrong or unsuitable
Revise the prompt or input, inspect another preview, or discard the result. YouTube describes some generative tools as experimental and explicitly cautions that mistakes are possible; do not publish a questionable result merely because the interface allowed it.
You are unsure whether to disclose
Assess the finished video against the realistic-and-meaningfully-altered test and YouTube’s examples above. Routine assistance alone is generally not enough, but a realistic generated or altered scene can be, even if other parts of the project used ordinary production help.
Keeping AI creation separate from always-on streaming
AI creation tools make or edit material; they are not, by themselves, a way to keep a YouTube channel live continuously. If your goal is to play uploaded videos as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It supports uploaded video up to 4K 60fps as made, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the first free day, with no card required, at StreamNeo registration.
