Abandoned was announced as a PS5 horror game by Blue Box Game Studios in 2021, but fans speculated it was a secret Hideo Kojima project tied to Silent Hill. Game director Hasan Kahraman publicly denied both connections. The game’s long-delayed milestones make the “bust” label understandable, but not confirmed: as of October 3, 2026, the U.S. PlayStation Store lists it for 2027, which is not proof that development is active or that it will launch.
What is Abandoned?
Blue Box Game Studios announced Abandoned on April 7, 2021 as an early-stage, first-person horror survival shooter exclusive to PS5. Game director Hasan Kahraman described its intended tone as “a realistic approach to survival” in a “highly detailed open world environment.” The announcement targeted Q4 2021.
The proposed story followed Jason Longfield, who wakes in a forest after being kidnapped and tries to escape. Blue Box said the game would emphasize tactical, deliberately paced shooting and survival mechanics affected by the character’s condition. It also outlined plans for DualSense features, 3D audio, 60 FPS, and native 4K. These were development intentions announced at an early stage, not independently verified or delivered specifications. PlayStation Blog’s 2021 announcement contains the original description.
Was Abandoned a Hideo Kojima or Silent Hill game?
No confirmed evidence establishes either connection. Online speculation treated the game and its studio as clues to a hidden Kojima project, often linking it to Silent Hill. The theory circulated, but thematic or naming coincidences are not proof of a collaboration.

In a video statement reported by PlayStation LifeStyle in June 2021, Kahraman said: “Yeah, I’m not really associated with Hideo Kojima. I’m not an actor. Not working on Silent Hill.” He also said he wanted to show that he was a real person. PlayStation LifeStyle’s report records the denial. On the available evidence, the responsible answer is that Abandoned was announced by Blue Box, and the director rejected the Kojima and Silent Hill claims.
Why did people call the theory—and the game—a bust?
The speculation gained attention while the game’s promised public milestones slipped. On March 31, 2022, the PS5 Realtime Experience app appeared with only a few seconds of in-engine footage, as Push Square characterized it. That brief showing did not settle what the finished game would be.

In a statement reproduced by Game Informer on April 4, 2022, Blue Box denied cancellation rumors but acknowledged that its Q1 2022 reveal and Prologue were delayed. The studio said it had underestimated its development roadmap and that Prologue would arrive when stable and ready: “We will release Abandoned: Prologue when it’s stable, good, and ready.” Game Informer’s report reproduces the statement.
Missed plans and years of uncertainty help explain why some observers became skeptical. They do not, by themselves, prove that the game was secretly something else, canceled, or completed. In September 2026, GamesRadar reported that the PlayStation Store listing had returned with a 2027 window, alongside a recap of the controversy and missed milestones. GamesRadar’s report provides that context.

Was Abandoned canceled, and is it coming in 2027?
Cancellation is not confirmed. Blue Box denied cancellation rumors in 2022 while also saying its reveal and Prologue were delayed. As of October 3, 2026, the U.S. PlayStation Store lists the game as “Announced” with a 2027 window. Its listing identifies a PS5 version, one-player and offline play, Remote Play support, and vibration and trigger effects; it also describes Realtime Experience, Prologue, and base-game versions. The Store’s description says, “Abandoned is a horror survival shooter with the focus on realism.” The official U.S. PlayStation Store page establishes what Sony’s storefront displays on that date.
A store listing is not a release, a guarantee, or independent confirmation of active development. The available direct studio statement about delays dates to 2022, while the 2027 window is the Store’s current listing, not a newly verified studio promise. Whether the game is actively being developed and whether it will actually launch remain open questions.
