Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor a 1080p, 30 fps YouTube Live stream, YouTube recommends 14 Mbps with H.264 or 10 Mbps with AV1 or H.265 (HEVC). It lists lower minimums—5 Mbps for H.264 and 4 Mbps for AV1 or H.265—but those are not its preferred targets. YouTube publishes no separate bitrate recommendation for animation, so start with the rate for your codec and test scenes that resemble your stream.
Recommended live bitrate by codec
YouTube’s live encoder guidance, accessed in 2026, organizes bitrate by codec, resolution, and frame rate—not by content type. For 1080p at 30 fps, use the row matching the video codec your encoder actually sends to YouTube:
| Codec sent to YouTube | Published minimum | Recommended rate |
|---|---|---|
| H.264 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265 (HEVC) | 4 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
These are live ingestion rates from YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance. The minimum is a lower bound in the table, not the quality target YouTube recommends. If your encoder is set to H.264, use the H.264 row even if another codec could theoretically produce a similar picture at a different rate.
Does animation need a different bitrate?
YouTube does not give animation its own bitrate setting. Its published figures are the same codec-specific recommendations used for other 1080p30 live video.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
As a practical consideration, thin outlines, sharp edges, small text, and rapid movement can make compression artifacts more noticeable in animation. That is a reason to inspect representative scenes carefully—not evidence for a higher official animation-specific rate. Use YouTube’s recommended rate for your codec as the starting point, then judge the result in a test.
Settings to check in your encoder
- Resolution and frame rate: Set the output to 1920 × 1080 at 30 fps if that is the stream you intend to send.
- Codec: Confirm whether the encoder is sending H.264, AV1, or H.265/HEVC, then match its bitrate to the relevant YouTube row above.
- Rate control: YouTube lists constant bitrate (CBR) for live encoding.
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Connection: Run a speed test and choose a bitrate your upload connection can sustain reliably. A speed-test result is not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming; leave practical headroom for network variation and other upload traffic.
YouTube lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 as supported live video codecs, and supports live frame rates up to 60 fps. Availability of a particular codec may depend on your encoder and setup; verify the codec actually selected rather than assuming it from the stream resolution.

Test the picture and connection before going live
- Set the encoder to the intended codec, 1080p30 output, CBR, and the corresponding recommended bitrate.
- Run a test stream with audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast. Include the animation’s most demanding material: fine linework, detailed backgrounds, fast pans, or quick action if those appear in the program.
- Inspect the result for visible blockiness, smeared edges, unstable motion, or audio/video problems. If the connection cannot sustain the recommended setting, test a lower rate that remains within the published minimum and check the stream’s health rather than assuming the minimum will look equally good.
- Monitor YouTube’s stream health and review any messages during the test and event. YouTube’s guidance specifically advises testing before streaming and monitoring health and messages while live.
For the complete current settings and diagnostic guidance, see YouTube Help: encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Live bitrate is not the same as upload bitrate
Do not use YouTube’s prerecorded-video upload figures as substitutes for live encoder settings. Its separate upload encoding recommendations list 8 Mbps for 1080p SDR at standard frame rates (24, 25, or 30 fps) and 12 Mbps for high frame rates (48, 50, or 60 fps). Those figures apply to encoding files for upload, not to live ingestion.

Common bitrate and stream problems
The picture looks soft or blocky
Check that the encoder is using the codec you think it is and that its output is actually 1080p30. Compare its configured rate with YouTube’s recommended rate for that codec. Test detailed and fast-moving animation, since a static opening frame may not reveal compression problems.
The stream health reports instability
Check upload capacity with a speed test, then reduce competing network traffic or choose a bitrate the connection can sustain more reliably. Confirm the keyframe frequency is two seconds and no more than four seconds. Re-run a test and watch stream health before relying on the setup for an event.

You used the upload recommendation for a live stream
For live streaming, return to the codec-specific live table: 14 Mbps recommended for H.264 or 10 Mbps for AV1/H.265 at 1080p30. The 8 Mbps 1080p30 figure is YouTube’s SDR prerecorded-upload recommendation, not its live recommendation.
