One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFor a pre-recorded video sent through YouTube Live at 720p and 50fps, start with 8 Mbps for H.264 or 6 Mbps for H.265/HEVC or AV1. Those are YouTube’s published 720p live recommendations for 30fps and 60fps; applying them to 50fps is a practical inference, not a separate official 720p50 recommendation. Use CBR, set keyframes every two seconds, and leave upload bandwidth headroom.
First, distinguish a live broadcast from a normal upload
“Pre-recorded” can mean uploading a video file to YouTube, or sending that file through an encoder as a live broadcast. For a video played out as YouTube Live, use the live encoder guidance in this article. A normal upload uses different recommendations: YouTube lists 7.5 Mbps for 720p SDR high-frame-rate video, including 50fps. That upload figure is not the bitrate setting for a live feed. YouTube’s upload encoding guidance also says to encode and upload at the frame rate at which the video was recorded.
Recommended YouTube Live settings for 720p50
YouTube’s live bitrate table has rows for 720p30 and 720p60, but no separate 720p50 row. Its published values are therefore a reasonable starting point for 50fps, not a specific official recommendation for that frame rate. YouTube’s live guidance is available in Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
| Setting | Practical choice for 720p50 | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 1280×720 at 50fps | Use this if it matches the prepared video and the output you intend to send. |
| Video codec | H.264: 8 Mbps H.265/HEVC or AV1: 6 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s listed 720p30 and 720p60 live values, applied to 50fps as an inference. The encoder must support the selected codec. |
| Rate control | CBR | Use constant bitrate for the live stream. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Connection protocol | RTMPS | YouTube recommends RTMPS for a secure stream connection. |
The bitrate figures above are for video, not the entire stream. YouTube’s live setup guidance allows AAC or MP3 audio over RTMP/RTMPS; 5.1 surround is supported only with AAC. Account for audio and any other stream data when checking total bandwidth.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose a codec your encoder and connection can handle
H.264 is the practical choice when compatibility is the priority. AV1 or H.265/HEVC can use the lower published 720p live bitrate, but only choose one if your encoder supports it and your YouTube live setup accepts it. For any of these codecs, the connection needs to sustain the stream’s total bitrate, not just the video figure.
Check upload bandwidth before going live
YouTube recommends keeping the total stream bitrate within available upload capacity and leaving 20% headroom. For example, a stream with a total bitrate of 8 Mbps would call for at least 9.6 Mbps of available upload capacity to preserve that margin. This is a planning calculation, not a guarantee of a stable stream: other devices and traffic can reduce the bandwidth available to your encoder. Check upload rather than download speed, as YouTube explains in its streaming tips.

- Run an upload-focused speed test under conditions similar to the planned broadcast.
- Include audio and other stream data when estimating total bitrate.
- If your available upload capacity is variable or shared, lower the video bitrate rather than running at the edge of the connection.
Preflight a file-based live stream
- Match the output to the source. Set the encoder to 1280×720 at 50fps if that is the prepared file’s intended output.
- Set the live encoding parameters. Choose H.264 at 8 Mbps or AV1/H.265 at 6 Mbps as a starting point, with CBR and a two-second keyframe interval.
- Configure the YouTube connection. Use RTMPS where available and select the correct YouTube stream key in your encoder. Treat the key as a credential: do not share or publish it.
- Test representative content. Send a test with audio and motion similar to the actual video, then inspect the preview and stream-health messages in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Allow time to catch problems. YouTube’s live tips recommend setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand. See YouTube live streaming tips.
Troubleshoot bitrate and stream health
- Buffering, dropped frames, or unstable health: The encoder may be sending more data than the available upload connection can sustain. Reduce video bitrate, check other network use, and retest with headroom.
- Soft or blocky picture: Confirm the encoder is actually outputting 1280×720 at the intended frame rate and codec. If the connection has spare capacity, test a higher video bitrate while remaining within the upload margin.
- Motion looks uneven: Verify that the file and encoder output are both set to 50fps. Frame-rate conversion can produce different motion cadence; YouTube’s upload guidance says to encode at the recording frame rate, though upload settings and live settings are distinct.
- Encoder rejects codec or stream settings: Confirm codec support in the encoder and use a format accepted by the YouTube live setup. If uncertain, H.264 is the widely compatible path listed in YouTube’s live guidance.
- Keyframe or connection warnings: Set keyframes to two seconds and use RTMPS where possible; do not set an interval longer than four seconds.
Copyright and the content of a pre-recorded live stream
Using a pre-recorded file does not change the fact that it is being broadcast live. Make sure you have the rights needed to use the video and its audio, and review YouTube’s live-stream requirements and policies before scheduling a broadcast. The encoder bitrate settings do not determine whether content is permitted.
