1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf OBS says it is streaming but YouTube Live Control Room says “encoder disconnected,” first confirm that OBS is sending to the same YouTube event whose dashboard you are viewing. Then check that event’s preview, its stream URL and key, OBS’s dropped-frame statistics, and any specific YouTube health error. OBS’s active status alone does not confirm that YouTube received the feed for the event on screen.
YouTube’s documentation does not define the exact meaning of the “encoder disconnected” label. Treat it as a signal-path problem to diagnose—from OBS, through your network, to YouTube’s ingest—not as proof of one specific failure.
Check the YouTube event and preview first
Follow the feed from OBS to the event you intend to broadcast. A stream can be active in OBS while the Live Control Room page you are watching belongs to a different scheduled event, or while YouTube is not receiving the expected feed.
- Open the intended event in YouTube Live Control Room. Check the event title and details so you know you are looking at the broadcast you mean to start.
- In OBS, check the selected service or destination and event configuration. Make sure they correspond to that same YouTube event.
- Start the encoder in OBS, then watch the event’s preview. YouTube’s setup flow has you start the encoder and check for its preview in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, wait for the preview before selecting Go live.
- Read the event’s health or error message. A preview plus a specific health warning points to a different problem than no preview at all. Use the message to choose the next check rather than changing settings at random.
If the event has no preview, do not treat OBS’s “streaming” status as confirmation that YouTube has received the feed. Continue with the destination, credentials, and connection checks below.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Verify the stream URL and key
In the settings for the intended YouTube event, compare its stream URL and stream key with the values configured in OBS. A key tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it. A mismatched or outdated key can leave the intended event without the feed you expect.
- Copy the server URL and key from the intended event in Live Control Room.
- In OBS, open the streaming configuration and compare the selected service or server and key with those event values. Replace incorrect or outdated values.
- If YouTube reports an encoder start error, follow YouTube’s recommended remedy: get a new stream key in Live Control Room and update the encoder to use it.
- Start OBS again and check the preview in the same event.
Resetting a key requires channel owner or manager permissions. Treat the key like a password: do not include it in screenshots, public posts, or logs you share. If you replace it, update OBS; the old value will no longer be the one you intend to use.
Use OBS statistics to test the network path
OBS’s official connection guidance says dropped frames or intermittent disconnections indicate a network issue between the computer and the remote ingest server. A connection may be unstable or unable to sustain the configured bitrate. Check OBS’s network statistics while the problem occurs, not just its overall streaming indicator.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Dropped frames or intermittent disconnections: investigate the connection from this computer to the ingest server and whether the current bitrate is sustainable.
- No obvious network symptoms in OBS, but no YouTube preview: recheck the destination and event key, then look for a YouTube health message. The absence of dropped frames does not by itself prove that the correct event is receiving the feed.
- Connection appears unstable at the configured bitrate: verify the selected destination and consider lowering the video bitrate. OBS suggests using 75% of total upload speed as a starting point; it is guidance, not a guaranteed setting for every connection.
Do not lower the bitrate reflexively if the evidence instead points to a wrong event, invalid key, or a format error. Change one relevant setting at a time, then check whether the intended event receives a preview.
Test the local and outbound connection
YouTube recommends checking encoder errors, CPU load, the encoder’s output, a local recording if one is available, and outbound internet. Those checks help separate an encoder problem from a connection problem.
- Check OBS and the computer. Look for encoder errors and unusually high CPU load. If you record locally, inspect that file to see whether the encoded output itself is affected.
- Test a known-good wired connection if practical. OBS lists Wi-Fi instability, faulty network cables or hardware, router or modem issues, and interference from VPNs, firewalls, antivirus, or network-prioritization software as possible causes. A wired test can help isolate Wi-Fi instability; it will not fix a wrong key or a YouTube-side issue.
- Test VPN or security interference carefully. If you temporarily remove a VPN or security tool from the test path, do so cautiously and restore protections afterward. Do not leave the computer less protected as a permanent workaround.
- Try another network path when available. If a wired or alternate connection changes the result, that is evidence about the original path—not proof that a particular router, ISP, or cable is at fault.
- Contact your ISP if outbound connectivity remains problematic. YouTube and OBS both direct users toward checking the internet connection when local encoder checks do not resolve a stream problem.
A replacement Ethernet cable is not a default fix. Test with a known-good cable or existing wired connection first; replacing hardware only makes sense if that test implicates the cable or connection.

Change format or protocol only for a matching error
Use the exact YouTube health message to decide whether a format change is relevant. YouTube’s documented incorrect-format case calls for H.264 video and AAC audio. If that is the error, check OBS’s output format against those requirements.
For an RTMPS-specific timeout or SSL error, verify that OBS is using the correct RTMPS URL and supports RTMPS. YouTube notes port 443 as a possible remedy for an SSL error. These are targeted checks for matching errors; changing codecs or protocols when the dashboard indicates a missing signal or connection issue can add confusion without addressing the cause.
When the checks do not resolve it
If the intended event, URL, and key are confirmed but the feed still does not arrive, preserve details that can distinguish a configuration issue from a network or ingest issue:

If your goal is to keep an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube around the clock, rather than troubleshoot an OBS broadcast from a camera or other live input, StreamNeo is a different option: upload your recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It is not a repair for an OBS-to-YouTube connection problem or a way to broadcast a live camera.
- No computer or home connection has to stay on for the cloud loop.
- Each slot streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; there are no quality tiers.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required.
The monthly option is $9.99 per month. Start your free StreamNeo day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does “encoder disconnected” always mean OBS stopped sending?
No. The exact label is not defined in the YouTube documentation covered here, so diagnose the event preview, OBS network statistics, and the specific health message rather than inferring one cause from the label alone.
Can I share my stream key to get help?
No. A stream key is a credential. Conceal it in screenshots and remove it from any logs or evidence you share.
