YouTube Live Control Room sets up or schedules the broadcast and gives your encoder the stream URL and key; the encoder sends the prerecorded video. YouTube’s documented workflow does not provide a special “24/7 prerecorded” mode or guarantee uninterrupted operation. For a continuous channel, configure the stream in Studio, prepare and test the encoder, and plan separately for feed failures, archives, and long-stream DVR limits.
What Live Control Room does—and what it does not
In YouTube Studio, Live Control Room creates or schedules a live broadcast and provides the connection details an encoder needs. The encoder—not Live Control Room—sends the video feed. YouTube’s instructions cover encoder-based streams, but do not describe a dedicated 24/7 prerecorded mode or promise that a feed will remain uninterrupted. Keeping the encoder and upstream feed running is therefore an operational responsibility, not a YouTube guarantee. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide and live stream settings.
Set up the stream in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live. Choose the Stream flow to start setup for a stream now, or open Manage to schedule one. You can reuse prior settings, but review them before using them again.
- Set the broadcast details. Enter the title and description, choose privacy (public, private, or unlisted), and set a schedule if needed. Default privacy can vary by account age. A scheduled stream can appear as upcoming, and viewers may opt into reminders. These settings are covered in YouTube’s live stream settings help.
- Copy the stream URL and key. In Stream settings, copy both into the encoder. Treat the key like a password: YouTube says, “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” If the key is exposed, a channel owner or manager can reset it in Live Control Room; update the encoder with the replacement.
- Choose a secure connection when supported. Prefer RTMPS if your encoder supports it. In Live Control Room, use the lock control beside Stream URL to reveal the RTMPS endpoint, then verify the copied URL begins with
rtmps. YouTube notes that an ordinary RTMP URL may appear by default. Details: Encrypt your stream using RTMPS. - Start the encoder and inspect its preview. Wait for the preview in Live Control Room, then verify picture and audio before selecting Go live for a scheduled stream. Watch stream health and any messages during the broadcast.
Choose stream settings for a prerecorded feed
Latency
Latency is the delay between capture and playback. Lower latency can increase buffering. For prerecorded video without real-time audience interaction, lower latency is usually less valuable, so normal latency is a reasonable default. That is a practical inference, not a YouTube rule for 24/7 broadcasts. YouTube explains latency in its live stream settings guide.
DVR
DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume a live stream, but YouTube warns that DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Viewers also cannot seek back to a point before the stream began. If you change DVR while live, the new setting applies only to viewers who start playback after the change. See Turn on DVR on live streams.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Auto-start and auto-stop
These controls determine whether an encoder can start or stop a stream. They do not provide a guaranteed recovery system if the encoder or feed fails. Review them when reusing stream settings; do not treat them as a substitute for monitoring or recovery planning.
RTMP/RTMPS or HLS
For an ordinary encoder setup, RTMPS is the secure RTMP option. HLS is a separate ingestion path intended for HDR or codecs not supported by RTMP; it sends segments, has higher latency, and disables ultra-low latency. HLS is not a general-purpose way to keep a prerecorded stream running. See YouTube’s guides to RTMPS and HLS streaming.

Tags
YouTube says tags play a minimal role in discovery except when content is commonly misspelled. Add them for spelling variants when useful, but do not rely on tags as a major audience-growth lever.
Configure the encoder’s video and audio
YouTube’s current encoder recommendations for RTMP/RTMPS list H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; frame rates up to 60 fps; and constant bitrate encoding. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says it should not exceed four seconds. These are platform recommendations, not independent performance measurements. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution table for the target that matches your codec, resolution, and frame rate.

- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
For one specific reference point, YouTube’s table recommends H.264 at 1080p30 with a 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended. Do not extrapolate that bitrate to other resolutions, frame rates, or codecs: the recommended bitrate varies with all three.
Test and monitor before relying on a long broadcast
- Run a test stream before the intended broadcast and check the preview, picture, audio, stream health, and any Live Control Room messages.
- Test encoder failover if your setup supports it; YouTube’s streaming tips recommend checking failover.
- If a complete copy matters, record locally and verify that the local archive file is growing. A local recording is especially useful for a long broadcast.
- Keep an eye on the feed rather than assuming that a live status means the entire prerecorded program is playing correctly.
Plan for archives and replays separately
YouTube’s encoder workflow says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not promise a complete archive for a 24-hour stream. DVR is a separate feature and may be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours; limits can also be lower on some devices and app versions. If you need a full replay, record locally and consider dividing the broadcast into shorter sessions rather than relying on a full 24-hour YouTube archive or rewind. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder and YouTube’s DVR guidance.

Troubleshoot common setup and operating problems
- No preview appears: Check that the encoder is running and that its stream URL and key match the values in Live Control Room. If you recently reset the key, update the encoder too.
- The encoder cannot connect securely: Confirm that it supports RTMPS and that you copied the endpoint revealed by the lock control. Verify that the URL begins with
rtmps; YouTube may display RTMP by default. - Video looks unstable or buffers: Check the stream health messages, use constant bitrate encoding, and compare your encoder’s codec, resolution, and frame rate against YouTube’s current bitrate table. Do not apply the 1080p30 H.264 figure to a different format.
- Viewers cannot rewind far enough: DVR cannot seek to before the stream began and may be limited or unavailable after 12 hours. A local recording or shorter sessions are safer when a complete replay matters.
- The stream stops and does not resume: Auto-start/auto-stop settings do not guarantee recovery after a failed feed. Check the encoder and connection, and plan an explicit monitoring and recovery process.
- A full 24-hour replay is missing: YouTube’s stated automatic archive rule applies to streams under 12 hours; it does not assure a complete 24-hour archive. Use a verified local recording if completeness is important.
