For a stable 24/7 YouTube Live feed, start with RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval, and a supported codec. Choose the bitrate for your resolution and frame rate, then make sure your upload connection can sustain it with headroom. Test representative video and audio, and monitor stream health in YouTube Live Control Room.

Recommended YouTube Live encoder settings

These settings describe the signal sent to YouTube for live ingest, not the settings to use when encoding an uploaded video file. YouTube transcodes the incoming feed into formats for viewers; the encoder’s priority is a stable, correctly configured feed.

Setting Starting point
Protocol RTMPS, which YouTube recommends; RTMP is also supported.
Rate control CBR (constant bitrate).
Video codec H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS, depending on encoder support and workflow.
Frame rate Up to 60 fps. For prerecorded material, keeping its native frame rate is a practical choice unless you intentionally need conversion.
Keyframe interval 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds.
Stereo audio AAC or MP3; YouTube lists 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps for stereo.
5.1 audio AAC, 48 kHz, 384 Kbps.

YouTube’s listed SDR advanced settings include square pixels, progressive scan, two B-frames, one reference frame, CABAC, Rec. 709, and 8-bit SDR. Use these where your encoder exposes them and your source is SDR. For HDR, YouTube recommends H.265 over RTMP(S); AV1 is not supported for HDR on its settings page.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

What bitrate should you use?

Choose according to codec, resolution, and frame rate. The figures below are YouTube’s recommended live ingest bitrates, not recommendations for encoding an upload.

Resolution and frame rate AV1 or H.265 H.264
1080p30 10 Mbps 14 Mbps
1080p60 12 Mbps 17 Mbps
720p30 6 Mbps 8 Mbps
720p60 6 Mbps 8 Mbps

These recommendations are published by YouTube; the help page does not state a publication date for the figures. YouTube advises leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. For example, a 14 Mbps H.264 feed calls for about 16.8 Mbps of available upload capacity using that planning margin. This is arithmetic, not a guarantee of a stable stream: connection consistency and competing traffic matter too.

Choosing between 720p and 1080p

  • Use the highest resolution and frame rate your source justifies and your connection can carry reliably.
  • At the same resolution and frame rate, YouTube’s recommended bitrate is lower for AV1/H.265 than for H.264. That is useful only if the encoder supports the codec and can produce it reliably.
  • Compare source detail and motion, encoder capability, stable upload capacity with headroom, and the quality your viewers need. YouTube’s bitrate table does not establish a universal quality-versus-cost winner.

For the full official table, see YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.

Set up and test a continuous prerecorded feed

  1. Configure the encoder. In your encoder’s YouTube destination or streaming settings, select RTMPS if available, enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key, and apply the codec, CBR, keyframe, frame-rate, and bitrate settings above. Labels vary by encoder; do not share your stream key, because someone with access can broadcast to your channel.
  2. Check upload capacity. Test the actual connection from the location and equipment that will run the encoder. Allow at least the recommended 20% margin over the stream bitrate and account for other upload traffic. YouTube’s separate 1.5–2× upload-speed guidance is specifically for simulstreaming multiple feeds; it is not a universal single-stream requirement.
  3. Run a representative test. Include the kind of movement and audio that will be in the real programming. Check the encoder preview and YouTube stream-health messages before relying on the configuration. YouTube explicitly recommends testing with similar audio and movement, then monitoring stream health.
  4. Plan the operating loop. Decide how your playlist repeats or what happens when it ends, and how the encoder or hosting setup recovers after a power or network failure. The encoder settings themselves do not provide a playlist scheduler, redundant internet path, or automatic restart guarantee; those depend on the tools and hosting you choose.
  5. Choose latency for the format. Lower latency can increase viewer buffering. For passive prerecorded programming, prioritize stable playback unless real-time interaction with viewers is important.
  6. Keep a separate recording if needed. YouTube recommends maintaining a local archive backup. That is particularly important for very long broadcasts.

Will YouTube save a 24-hour livestream?

Do not rely on YouTube to capture one continuous 24-hour broadcast as a complete archive. YouTube says, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable on long streams. Keep your own recording if a complete archive matters, and plan any operational division of broadcasts around your archive needs; a split does not itself guarantee capture.

Copyright and monetization for prerecorded loops

Clear rights for every element

You need rights for all prerecorded segments, music, and other included material for the planned live use. YouTube’s livestream terms say the provider represents that it has the rights needed for worldwide exploitation on Google services, including music licensing rights.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. A match may replace the feed with a placeholder; if the matched content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. Even with a license, you may need the channel added to the rights owner’s Content ID allowlist to avoid interruption. See YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions and Copyright issues with live streams.

A continuous loop is not a monetization guarantee

YouTube’s monetization policy update of July 15, 2025 clarified that “repetitious content” is called “inauthentic content” and includes repetitive or mass-produced material. The policy says channels should offer original, authentic content with creative, educational, or other value. Reviews apply to the channel, and format alone cannot determine whether a particular channel will qualify. Read YouTube channel monetization policies.

Troubleshooting stream instability

Symptom Likely cause What to check
Stream health reports dropped frames or instability Upload congestion, inconsistent connection, or bitrate too high for the available connection. Check actual upload capacity, reserve the 20% margin, reduce the bitrate or resolution if necessary, and limit competing uploads. Use YouTube’s streaming tips.
Feed connects but video or audio does not behave as expected Unsupported or mismatched codec, audio format, frame rate, or encoder configuration. Confirm supported codec and audio settings, then test with representative movement and sound before relaunching.
Viewers report buffering despite an apparently connected encoder Connection instability or a latency setting that favors lower delay over playback stability. Check YouTube stream health and connection consistency; for non-interactive programming, use a less aggressive latency choice.
Broadcast ends after a playlist or connection interruption The playlist, encoder, or hosting setup has no configured continuation or recovery behavior. Set and test the playlist’s repeat/end behavior and the restart procedure in your own encoder or hosting platform. YouTube’s cited encoder guidance does not promise automatic recovery for these events.
Live feed is replaced or interrupted Possible third-party content match, including music in prerecorded material. Verify rights and, if licensed, ask the rights owner about adding the channel to its Content ID allowlist; review YouTube’s live copyright guidance.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want the YouTube channel to keep playing uploaded videos without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo runs the loop from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo is for YouTube, not camera-based broadcasting.

  • Nothing at home has to stay on; the stream continues from the cloud.
  • Your uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
  • Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
  • The first day is free, with no card required.

The monthly option is $9.99 per month. UPI works in India; cards are available in India and worldwide. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, and StreamNeo team support. Plans differ by duration, not features. See StreamNeo plans, then start the free first day.
