For YouTube Live, set Streamlabs Desktop’s streaming encoder Keyframe Interval to 2 seconds when the control is available. YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four; two seconds is the preferred setting, not merely one acceptable choice. [YouTube encoder settings]

Where to find Keyframe Interval in Streamlabs Desktop

  1. Open Streamlabs Desktop and select Settings → Output.
  2. Locate the streaming encoder controls for the active output mode and encoder.
  3. Set Keyframe Interval to 2 seconds, if the control is available, then apply or save the setting.

Streamlabs’ support guide identifies Output as the area for encoder configuration and gives two-second keyframe examples. The exact subpanel can depend on the selected encoder and output mode, so there is not one guaranteed click path for every setup. [Streamlabs Desktop setup guide]

What the keyframe interval means

The interval is the time between keyframes in the video sent by your encoder. It is separate from bitrate, resolution, and frame rate: changing the interval does not set those other properties.

The interval also corresponds to a number of frames based on frame rate. At 30 fps, a two-second interval means a keyframe every 60 frames. [YouTube live-stream error guidance]

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.

YouTube’s keyframe guidance for RTMP/RTMPS

YouTube’s encoder-settings table for RTMP/RTMPS recommends a two-second keyframe frequency and sets a maximum of four seconds. It also specifies CBR bitrate encoding and supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video codecs, with frame rates up to 60 fps. These details apply to the RTMP/RTMPS table; do not assume they are specifications for a different streaming protocol. [YouTube encoder settings]

The four-second value is a ceiling, not the recommended target. Use two seconds for YouTube Live rather than treating two and four seconds as equally preferred options.

Fix an “incorrect video keyframe frequency” warning

  1. Check the active streaming encoder’s Keyframe Interval in Streamlabs Desktop and set it to two seconds.
  2. Check the encoder’s GOP configuration if available. YouTube says its processing pipeline requires a closed GOP for optimal transcoding. [YouTube live-stream error guidance]
  3. Run a test stream and inspect YouTube’s stream health rather than assuming the saved setting guarantees successful ingestion. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health. [YouTube encoder settings]

YouTube’s error guidance instructs creators to change the encoder so keyframes are sent every two seconds; it warns that a frequency longer than four seconds can cause buffering. [YouTube live-stream error guidance]

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep uploaded videos playing as a YouTube livestream around the clock, StreamNeo is a cloud option rather than a Streamlabs Desktop configuration.
