If YouTube Live Redirect is missing, the destination does not appear, or viewers remain on your stream after it ends, check the failure point: sender eligibility, the receiving channel’s permissions, whether the target is available, and whether the redirect is set on the correct source video. A redirect hands viewers off through autoplay after the source ends; it is not an instant forced transfer.
First, identify what failed
- No Redirect option or unable to send: check whether the sending channel meets YouTube’s eligibility requirements.
- The destination is missing from the list: check the receiving channel’s redirect permissions and whether the target is an eligible active or upcoming live stream or an upcoming Premiere.
- The redirect was saved but viewers did not move: confirm it is configured on the intended source item, then allow a brief player reload after the source ends.
- The source stream never went live: troubleshoot the broadcast separately. A stream-start or encoder issue is not, by itself, evidence of a redirect-permission problem.
YouTube’s Live Redirect help documents the feature’s eligibility and setup. YouTube’s separate live-stream restrictions and encoder troubleshooting guidance applies when the broadcast itself is the problem.
Check that the sending channel is eligible
YouTube says a creator needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes to send a Live Redirect. This requirement applies to the sending channel; it does not mean the destination channel also needs 1,000 subscribers.
If the sending channel does not meet those conditions, the redirect option may be unavailable. Fixing receiver permissions or changing the stream key does not satisfy the sender’s eligibility requirements. See YouTube’s Live Redirect requirements.

Check permissions on the receiving channel
The destination channel controls which channels may redirect viewers to its content. In the receiving channel’s YouTube Studio, open Settings > Community and review the redirect permissions. YouTube documents three choices:
- Subscribed channels: channels the receiving creator subscribes to can redirect to their content. This route can depend on subscriptions being public; private subscriptions may prevent the expected channel from being discoverable through this setting.
- All channels: allow redirects from any channel. YouTube says this option cannot be combined with the subscribed-channel option or the manual allowlist.
- Specific channels: manually approve channels. YouTube permits up to 100 channels in this list; specific approvals can be combined with the subscribed-channel option.
If the sender should be allowed but is absent, check the receiver’s selected permission and, for the subscribed-channel route, whether the relevant subscriptions are public. The receiver can use the manual approval controls if appropriate. Details are in YouTube’s Live Redirect instructions.

Make sure the target can be selected
Permission alone does not make every video selectable. YouTube’s TeamYouTube explanation says cross-channel targets include active or upcoming live streams and upcoming Premieres, subject to the receiving channel’s permission settings. A destination channel with no eligible active or upcoming item may therefore be missing from the Add list.
For an upcoming Premiere, schedule it before configuring the source stream; YouTube lists that as a best practice. Check the destination’s status and type before changing the source setup. See the TeamYouTube explanation of target discovery and YouTube’s feature help.

Verify the redirect is set on the right source item
- Open YouTube Studio and select Content > Live.
- Edit the source live video or Premiere that should send viewers onward.
- Open Customization, then find Redirect.
- Select Add and choose the eligible destination.
- Confirm the chosen destination belongs to the intended source item and that the setup is saved.
YouTube describes the handoff as autoplay after the live stream or Premiere ends. It advises telling viewers to wait a few seconds while the player reloads; its stream-settings guidance describes approximately two seconds. Treat that as a brief transition, not a guaranteed fixed duration. See How to use YouTube Live Redirect and Manage live stream settings.
If the source stream will not start
Separate a broadcast failure from a redirect failure. First establish whether the source stream actually went live. If you use a third-party encoder and receive an error, YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the stream key and updating the encoder. If the stream is live but appears inaccessible, test access and monitor stream health using YouTube’s live-stream tips.

These checks address the broadcast; resetting a stream key is not a documented fix for a missing redirect destination or redirect permissions. Consult YouTube’s encoder troubleshooting and YouTube live streaming tips.

A TeamYouTube post dated May 3, 2022 described a temporary technical issue affecting discovery of desired streams and suggested manual approval as a workaround; the post later said the subscribed-channel option would return. That is historical context, not evidence of a current outage. If sender eligibility, receiver permissions, and target availability all check out but the target remains absent, the cited official guidance does not identify the cause for a particular account. Check current YouTube Help or Studio support rather than assuming a platform-wide issue. See the dated TeamYouTube post.
