If viewers do not move after the source ends, allow a few seconds for the page to reload and remember that viewers with autoplay disabled may need to press play themselves.
How YouTube Live Redirect works
Live Redirect sends viewers from an ending livestream to a selected Premiere or another channel’s live stream. YouTube also supports redirecting viewers when a Premiere ends. When the source ends, YouTube says autoplay moves viewers to the chosen destination. The sender’s eligibility and the receiving channel’s permission are separate checks: being eligible to send a redirect does not automatically grant access to another channel’s stream. Check the requirements before changing settings
Sending channel eligibility
YouTube’s stated requirements for the creator sending a redirect are more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. If the redirect control itself is absent, verify these conditions first. YouTube Help
Receiving channel permission
The destination channel controls who may redirect viewers to its content. It can allow channels it subscribes to, all channels, or specifically approved channels. For the subscribed-channels option, the receiving channel’s subscriptions must be public. These are receiver-side permissions, not a fix the sending creator can apply alone.

The receiving creator can review this in YouTube Studio under Settings → Community. YouTube’s documented choices do not all combine: allowing all channels cannot be combined with the subscribed-channel or manual-list choices. The manual list supports up to 100 channels and can be combined with the subscribed-channel option. YouTube Help
Destination availability
The target must satisfy the receiving channel’s permission rules and have an upcoming or currently live livestream or Premiere. If no available destination meets both conditions, the picker can show no options. This distinction is useful: an empty picker does not necessarily mean the sender’s channel is ineligible. Set up a redirect in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio → Content → Live.
- Edit the source livestream or Premiere that will send viewers.
- Open Customization, then find Redirect.
- Select Add and choose an eligible Premiere or another channel’s eligible live stream.
- Save the source item’s changes, then end the source at the appropriate time to trigger the handoff.
This is YouTube Help’s documented Studio route; labels or navigation may change. YouTube also describes configuring redirects from Live Control Room. Fix the specific failure
The Redirect option is missing
- Check that the sending channel has more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes.
- If you are sending viewers to a different channel, ask its owner to review YouTube Studio → Settings → Community and permit your channel through an applicable option.
- Do not change encoder, camera, or streaming hardware settings to solve a missing permission control; the documented requirements are channel eligibility and authorization.
The destination does not appear in the picker
- Ask the receiving creator to confirm that its permission setting includes your channel. If relying on subscribed channels, their subscriptions must be public.
- Confirm the destination is actually live or has an upcoming livestream or Premiere.
- If neither permission nor availability conditions match, the picker will have no eligible option. A TeamYouTube post from May 3, 2022 described this behavior; it also noted a then-fixed issue with the subscribed-channel setting, which is historical context rather than evidence of a current widespread outage. You selected a destination, but viewers seem to stay on the source
- End the source livestream or Premiere; selecting a redirect does not itself move viewers before the source ends.
- Give the watch page a few seconds to reload. Tell viewers beforehand to wait rather than immediately closing the page.
- Because the handoff uses autoplay, viewers who have disabled autoplay may need to press play on the destination themselves. YouTube Help
You are redirecting to a Premiere
Create the Premiere before setting it as the destination. Let viewers know they may need to wait briefly after the livestream ends for the page to reload. If the documented checks all pass
If you meet the sender requirements, the receiver has authorized your channel, an eligible destination appears, and the source is configured correctly, the available guidance does not establish a universal browser-, app-, or encoder-specific fix. Check YouTube’s current Help and support channels for an interface change or service incident rather than changing unrelated streaming equipment.
