Live Redirect does not have a documented trigger while your 24/7 stream stays live. YouTube describes it as a handoff that happens after the originating live stream or Premiere ends. For an instruction or destination visible to people in the current stream’s chat, use a pinned chat message—but it is a signpost, not an automatic redirect.

How Live Redirect works
Live Redirect is for an end-of-broadcast handoff, not an always-on navigation feature. You configure a destination on the originating live stream or Premiere in YouTube Studio under Customization → Redirect. You can add a Premiere or select another channel’s live stream. When the originating broadcast ends, YouTube says autoplay moves viewers to the chosen destination.
Eligibility and destination permissions
- YouTube Help, accessed October 3, 2026, says the sending creator must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes.
- The destination channel must allow the redirect. YouTube documents options to allow channels the creator subscribes to, all channels, or specific channels. The all-channels choice cannot be combined with the other listed permission approaches.
- The manual approval list can include up to 100 channels, according to YouTube Help.
- A May 3, 2022 TeamYouTube announcement says channels of any size can receive redirects. For current settings and eligibility, use the current Help page; the announcement is dated supporting context. TeamYouTube announcement
Viewers who have autoplay disabled may need to click the play button to start the destination. Tell them in advance what will happen rather than assuming every viewer will transfer automatically.
How to pin a chat message
- Open the live chat for your stream or Premiere.
- Post the instruction or destination you want viewers to see. You can pin your own message or a viewer’s message.
- On the message, open its options and choose Pin. YouTube allows only one pinned message at a time.
- To replace or remove the pin, use the message options to pin a different message or unpin the current one. Only the creator—not moderators or viewers—can pin, replace, or unpin a message. YouTube Help: use live chat during a live stream or Premiere
A pin reaches people using that live chat; it is not a broadcast-wide redirect or a guarantee that viewers will leave the stream. If your destination matters, make the instruction explicit and include the destination viewers should open.

What a 24/7 channel should plan for
For a scheduled transition
If you intend to end one broadcast and hand viewers to another live stream or Premiere, Live Redirect is the documented feature to plan around. Confirm sender eligibility and destination permissions in Studio, and warn viewers that those with autoplay off may have to press play.
For an instruction during an ongoing stream
Pin a concise message in live chat. It can direct chat users to a destination or explain what to do, but it does not cause YouTube to switch them to another broadcast.

For reconnects and session changes
YouTube’s cited documentation does not specify whether a pinned message survives an encoder reconnect, whether a session transition counts as ending a stream for redirect purposes, or whether a redirect restarts or retriggers after a transition. Verify those behaviors on the channel before relying on them; do not assume a pin persists or a handoff occurs.
