Restream can deliver your broadcast to YouTube, but you set the redirect destination in YouTube Studio—not in Restream. To redirect viewers when your source stream ends, your channel must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. A redirect to another channel also depends on that channel’s permission settings.
What Restream does—and what YouTube controls
Restream handles the broadcast connection and event setup. YouTube Live Redirect controls what happens to viewers when the YouTube source stream ends: eligible viewers can be sent to a selected Premiere or another channel’s live stream. YouTube’s documented setup is in Studio or Live Control Room; Restream’s documented YouTube controls do not include choosing a Live Redirect destination.

Set up Restream and the YouTube event
- Connect the channel. In Restream, open Channels, choose Add New, select YouTube, authorize the account, then return to Restream. Restream says the authorized account must be the channel owner; a manager or editor account is not sufficient.
- Enable YouTube live streaming if needed. First-time activation requires phone verification and a 24-hour wait, according to Restream’s guidance. Allow for that delay before scheduling a broadcast.
- Create or select the event. Set up the YouTube event through the Restream workflow you are using, or connect an existing scheduled YouTube event. Restream documents Studio, RTMP, video-file, and playlist event paths, and provides an event selector for choosing an existing YouTube event.
Choose the Live Redirect destination in YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, open Content and select the Live tab.
- Edit the source video—the YouTube live event that viewers will watch first.
- Open Customization, find Redirect, and select Add.
- Choose an eligible Premiere or another channel’s live stream, then save or confirm the selection presented by YouTube.
- Before going live, verify that the destination is the intended event and that any other channel involved permits the redirect.
YouTube says viewers see a confirmation when the source stream ends and are then redirected. Set up the Premiere or target stream in advance. YouTube also recommends telling viewers to wait a few seconds after the source ends while their screens reload.
Eligibility, permissions, and destination limits

YouTube’s Help guidance, current as accessed in 2026, requires the sending creator to have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. If the redirect option is unavailable, check both conditions on the channel that owns the source stream.

The receiving channel controls permission
For a redirect to another channel’s live stream, that channel must allow redirects from yours. Its receiving settings can permit subscribed channels, all channels, or a manually approved list. YouTube allows up to 100 channels on that manual list. The “all channels” option cannot be combined with the subscribed-channel or manual-list options.
The target must be available
The target must be an eligible, available live stream or Premiere, and its availability must match the receiving channel’s permission settings. TeamYouTube’s announcement describes eligible choices as active or upcoming live streams and upcoming Premieres. If no matching channel or scheduled/live destination exists, YouTube may not offer a selectable redirect.

End the stream without leaving the event live
Include the YouTube event-ending behavior in your runbook. Restream says that when auto-stop is disabled on an existing YouTube event, stopping the Restream broadcast does not end the YouTube event: you must also choose End Live on YouTube. Check the event’s auto-stop setting before the broadcast so the source ends when intended and the redirect can take place.
Separately, Restream says YouTube has no stream-duration limit, but YouTube archives only streams shorter than 12 hours. That archive limit is not a Live Redirect eligibility rule.

Troubleshoot a missing redirect option
- You cannot find Redirect in the source event: confirm you are editing the source live video in YouTube Studio under Content → Live → Customization, rather than looking for a Restream setting.
- YouTube does not offer another channel’s stream: check that your sending channel meets the subscriber and strike requirements, and ask the recipient to review its redirect permissions.
- The destination is not selectable: confirm that it is an active or upcoming live stream or an upcoming Premiere, and that it is allowed by the recipient channel’s settings.
- The YouTube event remains live after you stop Restream: if auto-stop is disabled, open YouTube and select End Live.
- Restream will not connect the channel: authorize the YouTube channel owner account, not a manager or editor account. For first-time YouTube live activation, complete phone verification and allow the stated 24-hour wait.
