To remove dead air from an existing YouTube Live replay, edit the replay in YouTube Studio on a computer: open Content, select the video, choose Editor → Trim & cut, then use New cut to remove a pause in the middle. Back up the replay first: as of June 2025, YouTube says saved Editor changes can no longer be undone with the former Revert to original feature.
Before editing: make sure the replay is available and backed up
Open YouTube Studio and check that the old live stream appears as a replay in your channel’s content. A stream is not guaranteed to have a replay: YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording of a live stream.
Before making a cut, download a copy of the video or use Google Takeout to preserve an original. YouTube notes that Studio Editor changes can no longer be undone using the former Revert to original feature as of June 2025, so treat saving the edit as a consequential change and check the preview carefully.
Remove dead air from the existing replay in YouTube Studio
- On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio and open Content.
- Select the live replay you want to edit, then open Editor.
- Choose Trim & cut.
- For dead air at the beginning or end, drag the blue selection handles so the retained section starts and ends where you want the video to play. The selected region is what remains.
- For a pause in the middle, choose New cut. Position the red box over the section to remove and confirm the cut. Use the start and end time fields when you need to specify the cut precisely.
- Preview the result, checking the transition across each cut and confirming that no wanted gameplay, commentary, or other footage was included in the removed section.
- Save only after the preview shows the intended result.
YouTube’s trim feature is documented for videos shorter than six hours. For an unedited video with more than 100,000 views, a channel outside the YouTube Partner Program may be unable to save changes, except for face blurring. If the save option is unavailable, check whether one of these restrictions applies before trying another workflow.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose the right tool for the result you want
- Change the existing replay: Use Editor → Trim & cut to remove an unwanted beginning, ending, or internal pause while retaining the existing video. YouTube says this keeps the video’s URL, views, and comments.
- Make a shorter highlight: Use YouTube’s Highlights workflow to create a shorter highlight from a stream, including after it has ended. This makes a highlight rather than removing a gap from the original replay.
- Share selected moments separately: Clips or Shorts can extract portions as separate content. They do not remove a pause from the original replay.
If the replay is too long for the documented trim feature or the editor cannot save the change, edit a downloaded copy in another editor and upload it as a new video. YouTube does not let you replace a video in place; the new upload receives a new URL, and the original replay’s views and comments do not transfer.
