If your YouTube loop went offline after you renamed or moved a video, first update the file path saved in the OBS source or playlist entry. Then confirm the video plays in OBS preview. If it does, troubleshoot YouTube ingest separately. If by “playlist file” you mean an HLS .m3u or .m3u8 playlist uploaded to YouTube, check its segment paths and filenames instead; that is a different workflow.
First identify what was renamed
“Playlist file” can mean either a local playlist of media used by OBS or VLC, or an HLS media playlist sent to YouTube. The fix depends on which one you have.

OBS Media Source is intended for an individual media file. VLC Video supports playlists and requires VLC to be installed. See the OBS Media Sources documentation for the distinction.
Fix a renamed file in an OBS scene
- Find the scene and source. In OBS, select the scene used for the YouTube loop, then identify whether the relevant source is Media Source or VLC Video.
- Repoint the source. For Media Source, open the source properties and browse to the video’s current location. For VLC Video, edit the playlist entry that points to the old filename or path.
- Apply the change and check playback. Save or apply the source properties, then watch the OBS preview. Confirm that the expected video appears and that audio plays if the file has audio.
Renaming a file changes its pathname. If the source still references the old location, it may no longer be able to open the video. Updating the saved path addresses that local-source problem; it does not by itself confirm that YouTube is receiving the stream.

If OBS preview works but YouTube is offline
A working preview establishes that OBS can play the local media; YouTube ingest is a separate connection. Check the stream status in YouTube Live Control Room and the encoder’s connection status. If the source plays locally but the stream is offline, investigate the OBS-to-YouTube connection rather than continuing to change the media path. OBS’s Help Portal covers connection issues between the broadcaster and the streaming destination.
If the renamed file is an HLS playlist
This applies when an encoder uploads an HLS media playlist and video segments to YouTube. It does not automatically apply to an ordinary local OBS source. YouTube’s HLS ingestion guide says the media playlist filename must end in .m3u8 or .m3u. Check that the playlist references the segment filenames and paths that were actually uploaded. If a segment filename in the encoder’s upload includes a path component, the corresponding playlist entry must use that same path.

Relative segment references can also be affected when a playlist moves. In RFC 8216, the IETF’s August 2017 HLS specification, the rule is: “Any relative URI is considered to be relative to the URI of the Playlist that contains it.” In practice, check relative references against the playlist’s current URI, not its former location. See RFC 8216.
