If a channel manager cannot start a YouTube live stream, check their channel role first: YouTube allows Managers and Editors to manage live streams, but not Viewers or Subtitle Editors. The channel must also be verified, have no live-stream restriction in the past 90 days, and have computer live streaming enabled in YouTube Studio. These are separate checks, so changing a role alone may not restore access. The same general rules apply to Indian channels; the affected channel’s actual status must be checked in Studio.
Check the manager’s role
Ask the channel owner to confirm the person’s assigned role in YouTube Studio. Channel permissions let people help manage a channel without sharing the owner’s Google Account sign-in details. YouTube’s role guidance says that an Owner, Manager, or Editor can manage live streams; a Viewer can monitor created streams and settings but cannot manage live streams, and a Subtitle Editor cannot manage them either. YouTube’s channel permissions guide lists the capabilities for each role.
| Role | Can manage live streams? | Can manage permissions? |
|---|---|---|
| Owner | Yes | Yes |
| Manager | Yes | Yes |
| Editor | Yes | No |
| Viewer | No; can monitor created streams and settings | No |
| Subtitle Editor | No | No |
If the person is a Viewer or Subtitle Editor, the owner or a Manager can consider assigning a role that permits stream management. An Editor can manage live streams but cannot change other people’s permissions, delete the channel, or delete or reset stream keys. Use the least-privileged role that gives the person the controls they need; do not share the owner’s password.
If the channel is still using Brand Account access, YouTube directs owners to migrate to channel permissions. Follow YouTube’s current instructions before changing access arrangements, and have the owner make any permission changes that the current setup does not allow the delegate to make.

Check live-stream eligibility in YouTube Studio
- On a computer, sign in to the Google account that has authorized access to the affected channel and open YouTube Studio.
- Go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility.
- Find the live-streaming feature and check whether computer live streaming is available or whether Studio identifies an action or restriction.
- If the page indicates that access is not available, follow the stated verification or eligibility steps and check Studio notices for further details.
YouTube identifies computer live streaming as an intermediate feature in its feature access guidance. The channel owner or an authorized person needs to inspect the affected channel directly; another account’s status cannot establish what Studio will show for this channel.
Confirm verification and restriction status
YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance says a channel must be verified and must have had no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days to live stream. Check both conditions for the channel itself. A role that permits live-stream management does not override channel-level eligibility.

Review YouTube Studio and the channel owner’s email for notices about policy or account restrictions, including Community Guidelines or copyright issues. YouTube lists several reasons live-stream access may be restricted and says a daily limit on creating live streams can require waiting 24 hours before creating more. See YouTube’s guidance on avoiding live-stream restrictions for the applicable restriction details.
- If Studio reports a restriction, follow the instructions in the notice and wait for the restriction to end where applicable.
- If the daily creation limit has been reached, wait the 24 hours YouTube specifies before trying to create another live stream.
- Do not try to get around an active restriction by using another channel. YouTube prohibits using another channel while the restriction remains active.
Why being in India is not, by itself, the explanation
The YouTube help pages on permissions and feature access are available in India-localized versions, but the guidance reviewed describes general role and eligibility rules rather than a separate India-only rule for this situation. The channel’s role, verification, feature status, and any current restriction are the relevant checks; the title alone cannot establish which one is causing access to be missing.

Do not buy equipment to fix account access
A webcam, microphone, capture device, or encoder can support production after the channel is eligible, but none changes a delegate’s role or clears a channel restriction. YouTube describes mobile, webcam, and encoder streaming as ways to go live after setup, and says expensive equipment is not needed to get started. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips for production guidance.
