1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf YouTube has disabled live streaming on your channel, start with the email or YouTube Studio notice for that specific restriction. It identifies the reason and the appeal route, which may be a Community Guidelines appeal or a copyright process. Don’t delete the affected content before checking whether you can appeal, and don’t use another channel to get around an active restriction.
First, identify what YouTube restricted
YouTube may temporarily or permanently disable live streaming for several reasons, including a Community Guidelines strike or stream removal, a match to another copyrighted live broadcast, content involving minors, or another policy issue. There is no single appeal route that applies to every restriction. YouTube says the notice includes appeal instructions when it restricts a stream or channel, so use that account-specific notice rather than assuming a particular cause or looking for a universal appeal form. See YouTube Help: Avoid restrictions on YouTube live streaming.
- Open the email or in-product notice from YouTube. Note the affected stream or video, the policy or action named, the date, and any appeal instructions.
- Open YouTube Studio and check the Dashboard for a Channel violations card. Also check for copyright-related notices or restrictions.
- Choose the process that matches the notice. A Community Guidelines strike appeal is not the same as a copyright counter notification.
If the restriction is a Community Guidelines warning, strike, or removal
Submit an appeal in Studio
YouTube’s computer instructions direct creators to open YouTube Studio, go to the Dashboard, find the Channel violations card, and select Appeal. Follow the control attached to the action in your account; interface labels or availability can vary with the action. You can appeal a warning or strike within six months of issuance, and a content removal within one year of removal. YouTube says each strike may be appealed once. See YouTube Help: Appeal a Community Guidelines strike or video removal — Computer.
Make the appeal specific and preserve the content
Briefly identify the affected item and explain the specific reason you believe the decision was mistaken. Point to relevant context from the stream or video rather than making a general claim that the channel follows the rules. YouTube Help states, “Deleting the video will not resolve the strike.” Deletion can also remove the opportunity to appeal, so do not delete the affected content before deciding whether to appeal.

If YouTube grants the appeal, it may reinstate the content and remove the strike, or age-restrict content that is allowed but unsuitable for all audiences. If it denies the appeal, the strike remains. An appeal is a request for review, not a guarantee of reversal.
If the notice is about copyright or Content ID
Tell a claim, a live match, and a copyright removal apart
A Content ID claim is not automatically a copyright strike. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches, including another live broadcast. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you to stop using the content; continued use can interrupt or terminate the stream. Details are in YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.

If you have a license but a live stream is still interrupted, ask the rights holder whether it can add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube notes that a license alone may not prevent interruption if the channel is not allowlisted.
Use a counter notification only for a qualifying copyright removal
If a copyright removal request took down content and you believe the removal was mistaken or resulted from misidentification, YouTube’s counter notification process may apply. It is a legal request, not the ordinary appeal button for a Community Guidelines strike. YouTube shares the counter notification information with the claimant, who has ten US business days to provide evidence of legal action to keep the content down. Consider the legal and privacy consequences before submitting one; an authorized representative, such as an attorney, may submit it for you. See YouTube Help: Submit a copyright counter notification — Computer.

A live stream removed for copyright may result in a copyright strike and a seven-day live-stream restriction. YouTube says another copyright strike can make the live-stream restriction last 14 days. Copyright strikes also have a separate 90-day expiration rule subject to Copyright School and other conditions. These are different rules from Community Guidelines strike timelines; follow the notice and the policy that applies to your case. See YouTube Help: Understand copyright strikes — Computer.
How long a Community Guidelines restriction lasts
YouTube’s stated posting restrictions for Community Guidelines strikes are separate from the copyright restrictions described above. The strike can remain after the temporary restriction ends.

| Community Guidelines action | YouTube-stated effect |
|---|---|
| First strike | Posting, including live streaming, is restricted for one week. Full privileges are automatically restored after that period, while the strike remains for 90 days. |
| Second strike within the same 90-day period | Posting is restricted for two weeks. |
| Three strikes within the same 90-day period | The channel may be terminated. |
These are YouTube’s published Community Guidelines strike consequences, not a promise that every live-stream restriction has the same duration. Check the account notice for the action and timing that apply to your channel. See YouTube Help: Community Guidelines strike basics on YouTube.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What not to do while access is restricted
- Don’t stream through another channel. YouTube treats using, creating, or acquiring another channel to bypass an active restriction as circumvention. It may terminate the restricted account and other associated channels.
- Don’t delete the affected video before considering an appeal. Deleting it does not clear a Community Guidelines strike and can prevent an appeal.
- Don’t treat equipment or a paid service as a remedy. A camera, streaming software, or paid appeal service cannot remove an account restriction; use the process in YouTube’s notice.
For YouTube’s circumvention rule, see Avoid restrictions on YouTube live streaming.
