YouTube does not require any minimum subscriber count to go live. You can start streaming to zero followers the moment you enable the feature on your channel.
The confusion comes from YouTube’s older monetization rules, which once required 1,000 subscribers before you could earn revenue. That threshold no longer applies to live streaming itself—only to the YouTube Partner Program if you want to make money. Live streaming as a feature is open to all account types.

What You Actually Need to Start Streaming on YouTube
Channel eligibility: Your account must be at least 50 days old and verified by phone. That’s the only real gate YouTube maintains. New accounts or accounts flagged for violations cannot stream, but subscriber count does not factor into that decision.
Recommended Free Tools
Hardware or software: You need either a webcam and microphone on your computer, a smartphone with the YouTube app, or an encoder. If you already stream on other platforms or produce recorded content, you probably have this covered. The encoder can run on your own machine—OBS Studio, Wirecast, or any RTMP-compatible software works. You paste your stream key into the encoder, and YouTube receives the video feed.

- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- Auto-Light Balance: RightLight boosts brightness by up to 50%, reducing shadows so you look your best—compared to previous-generation Logitech webcams (1)
- Privacy with a Slide: The integrated webcam cover makes it easy to get total, reliable privacy when you're not on a video call
- Built-In Mic: The built-in microphone lets others hear you clearly during video calls
- Easy Plug-And-Play: The Brio 101 works with most video calling platforms, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet—no hassle; it just works
Bandwidth: Your upload speed should be at least 2.5 Mbps for 720p at 30 frames per second, or 4.5 Mbps for 1080p. If your home connection is slower, YouTube will accept it—the broadcast will just buffer or drop resolution automatically. Check your upload speed at speedtest.net if you are unsure. Upload speed is different from download speed; most home connections have much less upload capacity, which is why many streamers hit a wall here.
An internet connection that stays on: This is where most setups break. If you want to stream for eight hours, your router must stay connected without dropping, your computer must not sleep or restart, and your encoder software cannot crash. Any interruption kills the stream, and you have to restart manually. If you are streaming while working on the same machine, a Windows update can force a reboot at the worst time—3am, Saturday, while the channel sits dark and viewers leave.
The Subscriber Question in Real Scenarios
Subscribers matter for different reasons than you might think.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For audience size: More subscribers means more people who know you are live. YouTube notifies subscribers when you go live, but only if they have enabled notifications. A channel with 50,000 subscribers might get 200 viewers in the first few minutes of going live, while a channel with 100 subscribers might get 12. Neither needs subscribers to stream, but subscribers determine how many people see the announcement.
For partnership and revenue: If you hit 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the past 12 months, you become eligible for YouTube Partner status. That unlocks monetization—ad revenue, Super Chats, channel memberships. Until then, you can stream, but YouTube will not pay you. Plenty of creators stream for months or years without partnership, building an audience first.
For discoverability: YouTube’s algorithm does not require subscribers to recommend your stream to people who do not follow you. A well-categorized stream with a clear title can appear in the “Browse” section, search results, and the home feed of people who watch similar content. A stream from a 50-subscriber channel can go viral if the content matches what viewers are searching for. Conversely, a 100,000-subscriber channel streaming low-quality or irrelevant content will not trend.

The Real Bottleneck: Keeping Your Stream Alive
The practical limit is not subscriber count—it is uptime. Streaming software on a home computer works until it does not. Your internet hiccups. Your machine overheats. A driver update installs in the background. Your cat walks across the keyboard. The encoder crashes silently. You wake up at 6am to find the stream ended at 4:47am with no one to restart it.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

StreamNeo lets you turn a prerecorded video into an always-on YouTube Live broadcast without leaving your PC or encoder running. Upload the video and paste your YouTube stream key to set up the stream in the cloud.
StreamNeo checks stream health every 30 seconds and automatically restarts the broadcast if it drops. That addresses the manual-restart problem created by an unattended home setup.
To test the workflow, start the free 24-hour 720p/30fps trial with no card at signup and see whether it fits your unattended YouTube schedule.
Leaving a desktop encoding around the clock is the part that breaks first—one Windows update at 3am and the channel is dark until you notice. StreamNeo removes that dependency: you upload the video once, paste your YouTube stream key, and the stream runs from the cloud with your own machine switched off, restarting itself if the connection drops. There is a free 24-hour trial and no card required, which is long enough to see whether it survives a night unattended.
Starting Your First Stream With No Subscribers
Step 1: Verify your account. Go to youtube.com, click your profile icon, select “Create a Channel,” and follow the phone verification step. Wait up to 24 hours for YouTube to confirm.

The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Will my stream get recommended if I have no subscribers? YouTube’s algorithm does not check subscriber count before recommending a stream. A high-quality, well-tagged stream on a new channel can reach thousands of viewers. A low-quality stream on a big channel will not. Content and metadata matter; subscriber count does not.
What if my stream disconnects? If your encoder loses internet, the stream stops. Viewers see a “stream has ended” message. You have to manually restart the encoder. If you are sleeping or away, the channel stays dark until you return. This is the main reason creators move to cloud solutions.
StreamNeo is a practical fit for this failure mode: upload a prerecorded video and paste your YouTube stream key, then let the broadcast run in the cloud while your PC stays off. It checks stream health every 30 seconds and restarts dropped streams automatically, so you do not have to be present to restart an encoder.
Can I stream games from a console if I have no subscribers? Yes. Capture card, encoder, stream key—same process. No subscribers required.
