A fluctuating YouTube Live bitrate on Airtel Xstream Fiber does not, by itself, identify the cause. First check the encoder settings and YouTube’s stream-health messages; then compare the same stream over Wi-Fi and wired Ethernet. Keep the profile constant during the comparison so you can tell whether a named configuration warning or a change in the network path tracks the problem.
Start with the evidence, not a guess about Airtel
Before changing settings, write down the encoder’s output resolution, frame rate, codec, configured bitrate, and any observed bitrate changes or network warnings. During a test stream, inspect YouTube’s stream-health messages. YouTube’s diagnostic categories include bitrate, frame rate, codec, keyframe/GOP, and video-ingestion starvation issues. For example, bitrateHigh, bitrateLow, gopSizeLong, openGop, videoCodec, and videoIngestionStarved point to different conditions; YouTube describes ingestion starvation as not receiving enough video to maintain smooth streaming. See YouTube’s configuration-issue guidance and the LiveStreams API reference.
A warning is evidence about the condition it names, not automatic proof that Airtel is responsible. Conversely, no configuration warning does not prove that the home upload path is stable. The official guidance cited here does not establish a specific Airtel Xstream Fiber fault or measure this symptom on Airtel connections.
Match bitrate to codec, resolution, and frame rate
Use the bitrate row for the codec and output profile you actually selected. YouTube’s table gives these H.264 examples; they are encoder-ingestion recommendations, not measurements or guarantees of Airtel upload performance.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| H.264 profile | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p, 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| 1080p, 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p, 60 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p, 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
These figures are specifically for H.264. YouTube lists different values for AV1 and H.265, as well as additional resolutions; consult YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate table rather than applying the H.264 numbers to another codec. The page does not display a publication year for these figures.
Use a consistent output configuration
- Set bitrate control to CBR, which YouTube lists for live encoding.
- Use a two-second keyframe interval where available; YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Choose an output quality your connection can sustain. YouTube’s guidance is: “Make sure you choose a quality that will result in a reliable stream based on your internet connection.”
- If YouTube reports a specific issue, make the corresponding correction and test again using representative motion and audio. A long keyframe interval, for example, is not the same problem as a connection timeout.
The supported live protocols include RTMP and RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS. These settings and recommendations are documented in YouTube Help.

Compare Wi-Fi with wired Ethernet
To see whether the Wi-Fi segment is associated with the fluctuation, connect the streaming computer directly to the ONT/router with an RJ45 Cat5 or Cat6 LAN cable if the device supports Ethernet. Keep the encoder profile and other test conditions the same, then compare bitrate behavior and YouTube health messages. Airtel’s home troubleshooting guidance covers checking connections and LAN cabling. It notes that 2.4 GHz generally reaches farther, while 5 GHz can offer faster speeds over a shorter range.
A wired test can help isolate the Wi-Fi path, but it cannot by itself distinguish a router or ONT issue from an Airtel-side or YouTube-ingestion issue. A cable is useful only if you need one for this comparison; it is not a guaranteed fix. Avoid replacing the router or ONT without evidence of a fault.

Distinguish bitrate variation from RTMPS connection errors
If the symptom is a connection failure or timeout rather than a bitrate that varies during an active stream, check the RTMPS endpoint configuration. YouTube documents RTMPS as RTMP tunneled through SSL/TLS. The ingestion URL must use RTMPS and a valid YouTube endpoint; connections use port 443, and the server hostname is required for authentication through SNI. Google’s documentation says an SSL error can result from the wrong server or port, while a timeout can occur if cleartext RTMP is sent to an endpoint expecting RTMPS.
These checks apply to setup errors and connection timeouts; switching to RTMPS alone is not evidence that variable upload throughput will be fixed. See Google’s RTMPS delivery documentation, last updated September 14, 2026.

Run a controlled test and escalate with useful details
- Record the codec, resolution, frame rate, configured bitrate, encoder warnings, and the time the fluctuation occurs.
- Start a test stream and capture YouTube’s health status and any specific issue message.
- Keep the profile unchanged and compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet on the same device, where possible.
- If you change an encoder setting, change one at a time and record the result. This helps link a change in behavior to a particular setting rather than several simultaneous adjustments.
- If the symptom persists, give the relevant support channel the times, encoder logs, YouTube health messages, output settings, and whether it reproduces on Ethernet. Airtel’s guidance points customers to its Thanks app and customer support line 121 from a registered mobile number; support routes and availability can change.
A generic speed-test result is not proof of sustained live-stream performance. Compare observations from the same device and network, and note whether the symptom is repeatable under comparable conditions. The official sources do not report an Airtel-specific controlled test or establish a time-of-day pattern for Airtel users.
Or let it run in the cloud
