A change to your ISP-assigned public IP is not documented by YouTube as a standalone cause of an RTMP stream disconnect. The timing may mean the outbound connection was interrupted during an ISP or router reconnection, but the cause needs to be diagnosed. Check the encoder and outbound connection first, then confirm the current YouTube stream URL and key; do not reset the key just because the IP changed.
Diagnose the disconnect in this order
- Check the encoder at the time of the drop. Review its status and logs for a network disconnect, authentication/configuration error, or local encoding problem. Confirm local audio and video are working and the encoder is not reporting a CPU issue. YouTube’s troubleshooting flow distinguishes encoder problems from a healthy encoder with a failing outbound connection. See YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guide.
- Test upload capacity and stability. A download-speed result does not establish that the outbound stream has enough capacity. Compare upload capacity with the total bitrate you are sending, allow for other traffic, and look for instability or packet loss. YouTube recommends leaving 20% of upload capacity unused as headroom; that is platform guidance, not a guarantee that a connection will remain stable. Its streaming tips warn that a connectivity disruption can break a stream.
- Check the destination and credentials in YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm the current stream URL and stream key, then compare them with the encoder’s destination settings. The URL identifies where the encoder sends video; the key authorizes the feed. Update stale values by copying the current ones from Live Control Room. YouTube documents resetting a key if it has been compromised, not as a remedy for an ISP IP change. See Manage live stream settings.
- If the encoder uses RTMPS, verify the endpoint and protocol. Use the RTMPS URL shown in Live Control Room, make sure the encoder supports RTMPS, and check the connection details. Google’s RTMPS integration guidance specifies port 443 and correct TLS/SNI behavior; for setup and timeout checks, see Delivering Live YouTube Content via RTMPS and Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.
- Contact your ISP if the outbound test finds a problem. Ask whether the interruption coincided with a WAN reconnect or service issue, and whether your plan uses a public or shared/CGNAT address. The answer depends on your provider and plan; a static IP cannot be assumed to cure an outbound session interruption.
Does a public-IP change mean you should reset the stream key?
No—not on the evidence available. YouTube’s settings guidance explains the roles of the stream URL and key, but does not identify a public-IP change as a reason to reset the key. Resetting it changes the credential the encoder needs, so it can create another configuration problem if the encoder is not updated with the new key. Check and refresh the configured URL or key only if it is stale or otherwise incorrect; reset a key if it is compromised.
When is multi-WAN bonding worth considering?
If disconnects recur during WAN handoffs and keeping the session alive is important, a bonded multi-WAN setup is a specialized resilience option. Peplink describes SpeedFusion Hot Failover as maintaining active sessions through tunnels over multiple WAN links and lists live video as a use case. These are vendor descriptions, not an independent guarantee that a particular router will preserve every YouTube stream. Ordinary failover may still interrupt a session.
Before buying a Peplink SpeedFusion router, check the exact model’s capabilities, required configuration or service, availability in India, and total equipment and recurring costs. Peplink also describes bonding, smoothing, and Hot Failover in its SpeedFusion technology overview. This is a solution to investigate for repeated continuity problems, not the first fix for a one-off disconnect.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What to compare before changing your setup
- Whether the failure is reproducible and coincides with an ISP or WAN reconnect.
- Whether encoder logs point to a network interruption or to an authentication, destination, or local encoding problem.
- Whether upload capacity has enough headroom and remains stable while streaming.
- Whether a genuinely independent second WAN is available, and whether the bonding system can maintain the outbound session to YouTube.
- The equipment, configuration, and recurring service costs, as well as your ISP plan’s terms.
