If OBS Studio doesn’t show a YouTube Stream Key box, it may be using its connected YouTube account workflow, which can handle the key without displaying a manual field. In OBS, open Settings > Stream and check whether a YouTube account is connected. To enter a key yourself, disconnect the account or choose Use Stream Key (advanced) if that option appears in your version. This is a leading explanation, not a guaranteed diagnosis; the steps below cover both workflows.
Why the Stream Key field may be missing
OBS supports both a connected-account workflow and manual stream-key controls. When OBS is connected to YouTube, the key-selection process may be handled within that integration instead of through an editable Stream Key box. OBS community reports describe disconnecting the account to reveal the manual field, but that user-reported fix may not explain every case.
YouTube’s standard encoder setup uses a stream URL and stream key. YouTube describes the key as the credential that tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it. The documented workflow is not specific to India; the available evidence does not establish an India-only restriction or a different fix for Windows users there.
Make the manual Stream Key box appear
- Open OBS stream settings. In OBS Studio, go to Settings > Stream. Confirm that the selected service or destination is YouTube.
- Check the account connection. If OBS shows that a YouTube account is connected and no editable key field, disconnect that account. Alternatively, select Use Stream Key (advanced) if your installed version offers that option. Labels and controls can vary by version, so follow what is actually shown in your Stream settings.
- Get the intended key from YouTube Studio. In a browser, open YouTube Studio, choose Go Live, and open the Stream tab in Live Control Room. Copy the key for the stream you intend to send.
- Enter and apply it in OBS. Paste the key into OBS’s Stream Key field. Confirm the YouTube service or server selection is appropriate, then apply the settings. YouTube’s encoder guidance calls for configuring both the stream URL and key; use the values associated with your stream in Live Control Room.
- Test the incoming feed before going live. Start streaming from OBS, then wait for the incoming stream or preview to appear in Live Control Room. Check the feed there before clicking Go live. YouTube recommends testing the encoder setup and recommends RTMPS.
Choose between account connection and a manual key

Neither workflow is universally better. The relevant choice depends on whether account authentication works and whether you need to manage a particular key in YouTube Studio.

If the field is still missing or the stream will not connect
- Recheck the destination. In Settings > Stream, make sure OBS is set to YouTube rather than another service or destination.
- Look again for the manual option. Confirm whether an account is connected and whether Use Stream Key (advanced) is available. The precise controls depend on the OBS version and what appears in that window.
- Refresh the key in the encoder. If YouTube reports an encoder error, its troubleshooting guidance says to obtain a key in Live Control Room and update the encoder. Check that you copied the key for the intended stream.
- Reset only when needed. If the key may be compromised or you need a fresh one, the channel owner or manager can reset it from Live Control Room’s Stream tab. Update OBS with the replacement key afterward.
- Separate login problems from key problems. If OBS is using account sign-in rather than a manual key and that login path fails, YouTube directs users to the third-party software’s support. Switching to manual entry is an option only if OBS exposes that control in your version.
- Test the encoder path. Start OBS and wait for YouTube’s Live Control Room to show the incoming feed before starting the public broadcast. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder connections.
