Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTreat your YouTube stream key like a password. YouTube says it is the “password and address” that lets an encoder send a feed for YouTube to accept. Channel permissions limit access to the key, but the available documentation does not establish whether OBS diagnostic logs redact it—or what YouTube’s internal server logs contain. Inspect logs before sharing them; if you suspect the key was exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and replace it in OBS.
What a stream key reveals—and why it matters
A stream key is an encoder credential, not a public link to your broadcast. YouTube instructs creators to enter it into streaming software so the encoder can connect to the correct live stream. YouTube describes stream keys as a stream’s “password and address” (YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings).
Do not display the key on stream, include it in screenshots, paste it into chat, or publish it in a support post. Anyone who obtains a usable key may be able to send a feed to the associated stream; treat a suspected disclosure as a reason to rotate the key, not merely to hide the screenshot.
Who can see or reset a key in YouTube Studio?
Access depends on the channel role. YouTube’s documentation distinguishes viewing stream settings from managing live streams and resetting keys; those are not interchangeable permissions.

| Role or access route | Documented stream-key access |
|---|---|
| Viewer | Can view and monitor created streams and see stream settings except the stream key. |
| Editor | Can manage live streams, but cannot delete or reset stream keys. The cited documentation does not establish that every Editor can reveal a key. |
| Owner or Manager | YouTube’s documented key-reset flow requires one of these roles. The cited material does not spell out every credential-reveal case for every account configuration. |
These capabilities are described in YouTube’s channel permissions documentation and its stream settings guidance. YouTube recommends delegated channel permissions instead of sharing the owner’s Google Account sign-in details. Give collaborators only the role they need, and review channel access when someone no longer needs it.
What OBS can show—and what its logs establish
OBS has a stream-key field in its settings, with a show/hide control; its source code establishes that interface, not how every local file, backup, log, or upload handles the credential (OBS stream settings UI source). When you enter a YouTube key manually, it is part of OBS’s configuration context. Do not infer from the masked field that no one with access to the computer or its files can reach it.

OBS creates a diagnostic log each time it runs, and its support guidance explains how to upload a current or previous log for troubleshooting (OBS log-sharing instructions). That guidance does not establish whether current local or uploaded logs redact YouTube stream keys. Therefore, do not assume a log is safe to publish automatically: inspect the actual file and remove credentials or other sensitive details before sharing it. This is a precaution, not a claim that OBS necessarily writes the key into its logs.
What “server logs” means here
The available documentation covers OBS diagnostic logs and YouTube’s stream transport and settings, but does not establish the contents or retention practices of YouTube’s internal server logs. It also does not say that ordinary channel delegates can read those logs. There is no supported basis here to claim what YouTube records internally or who can access it; the practical steps you control are channel permissions, the encoder computer, and files you choose to share.

What RTMPS protects—and what it does not
YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP over TLS/SSL, which encrypts the stream connection in transit. Its setup guidance explains selecting an RTMPS preset or entering an RTMPS URL in the encoder (YouTube Help: Encrypt your stream using RTMPS).
Transport encryption protects the connection between encoder and YouTube; it does not hide a key exposed through account access, a visible settings screen, an insecure computer, or an unredacted diagnostic file. RTMPS is useful, but it is not a substitute for rotating a key after suspected disclosure.

What to do if the key may have leaked
- Reset it in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room, select the stream’s Stream tab, and use the reset control for the stream key. YouTube says this requires channel Owner or Manager permission (Manage live stream settings).
- Update OBS. Replace the saved key in OBS or your encoder with the newly generated value so it can send the stream again.
- Review channel access. Remove access that is no longer needed and prefer delegated roles over sharing Google Account credentials (YouTube channel permissions).
- Check what you shared. Inspect diagnostic logs, screenshots, configuration exports, and support posts before publishing them. Remove any credential that appears; do not rely on an assumed log-redaction rule.
- Use RTMPS where supported. Configure the encoder for YouTube’s RTMPS option to encrypt the connection in transit.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your concern is exposing a key on a home streaming PC, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; the cloud loops the video without requiring your computer or home connection to stay on. You still need to protect the key and use YouTube’s account permissions carefully.
